A convicted rapist is back behind bars after he was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for throwing a 17-year-old girl of a New York City roof in 1989.

Scott Parrilla, who was 19 at the time, ended Noelis Bayanilla's life because she refused to have sex with him.

Parilla, now 48, received a 25 years to life sentence, meaning he will be eligible for parole after serving a minimum of 25 years.

Joann Estanislau-Caliz, Bayanilla's mother, said Parilla deserved to rot in jail for the rest of his life.

'I cannot put into words what you did to my only child,' Estanislau-Caliz said in a statement to Parrilla, who was not present in court during the sentencing.

'August 6, 1989, you cut off her life - and you cut out my heart that day. What you did, I will never understand.'

Around 5am on that fateful night, Parrilla walked Bayanilla home and they went up to the roof of her five-story apartment building in the Bronx.

Parrilla wanted to have sex with Bayanilla, who refused. They began arguing and she tried to escape.

That's when Parrilla grabbed her and pushed her off the roof.

Some residents of the building still remember the horrifying scene.

'It sounded like a refrigerator falling to the ground,' one resident told the New York Post

'I looked out the window and saw her there. She was calling, "Mommy, Mommy!"'

Bayanilla was rushed to the hospital, where she died from her injuries two days later.

Multiple witnesses told investigators that Parrilla was the last person they saw with Bayanilla on the day of her death.

But he was never charged due to lack of evidence and the case went cold for 26 years.

That all changed in 2015, when one of Bayanilla's friends called the police and asked for an update.

New York Police Department Lt William O'Toole reopened the cold case with the Bronx Homicide Squad and began reexamining the evidence.

That's when they discovered that the DNA found under Bayanilla's fingernails was a match to Parrilla.

His DNA was already on file after he was convicted of rape and attempted murder in 1993.

Parrilla was arrested for Bayanilla's death on March 14, 2016 as he was getting released from Rikers Island, where he was serving time for larceny.

Parrilla was found guilty of second-degree murder earlier this month. He claimed in a written affidavit that he was innocent and that the judge made errors in his pretrial rulings.

His lawyer told the court that Parilla was suicidal, had PTSD, and suffered from substance abuse 'all his life'.

Meanwhile, Estanislau-Caliz talked about a life that never really got a chance to blossom.

Bayanilla dreamed of becoming an architect, she said. One day, she wanted to start a family.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
