A South Florida college student from Venezuela who ended up in a wheelchair after a debilitating spinal injury has pulled off an incredible feat and walked across the stage at his graduation ceremony.

Venezuela native Aldo Amenta broke his neck after diving into the shallow end of a swimming pool in 2015.

The accident changed his life completely after doctors declared him to be a quadriplegic.

'Now, I depend on a lot of people to help me do my daily activities,' he said. 'So, that's become a huge challenge in just my everyday life.'

Amenta considered dropping out of school, he said. But with the help of his loved ones and a scholarship from the Miami-based university, he has been able to carry on with his studies and graduate.

On Sunday, the audience were able to witness the seemingly impossible as Amenta was hoisted out of his chair before taking steps on his own.

Wearing a specially constructed exoskeleton he was able to walk across the stage to collect his diploma - a degree in electrical engineering.

He described the moment as 'amazing,' saying that the walk symbolized his ability to continue fulfilling his dreams despite the accident that changed the course of his life.

Amenta had to practice with the exoskeleton for several hours before he was able to perform the walk, according to WPLG

'It was an amazing experience,' Amenta said. 'For me it was a milestone to accomplish. Being able to cross the stage walking is something that's really meaningful.'

'It doesn't matter how hard you think things are going to be,' he said. 'Maybe you feel that it is impossible for you to make it, but you'll find people that are willing to help you...that motivated me. That gave me the strength to be able to continue to push myself through and stay positive.'

Amenta hopes to continue his education with a master's degree and to 'keep on working on my rehabilitation, working for my dream to get back on my feet,' he said.

Amenta has also vowed to continue his rehabilitation and hopefully regain more movement

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
