Harvey Weinstein described the last 12 months as 'one hell of a year' and 'the worst nightmare' of his life in recently leaked emails where he attempted to discredited the NYPD detectives working on his sexual assault case and promised 'there is more to this story'.

The emails were obtained by TMZ and published on Thursday.

Weinstein's lawyers say he sent them to 'friends' but would not go into further detail.

In one, the disgraced movie mogul  implored the unknown recipient to read articles about the NYPD's Special Victims Unit, specifically a detective who was removed from his position after it emerged he had told a witness not to come forward with evidence which undermined one of Weinstein's accusers claims.

The email read: 'I've had one hell of a year... the worst nightmare of my life.

'As you can see from these articles, the police have played a very difficult role in my investigation.

'All 3 police officers have either been retired, or re-positioned from the SVU.

'The articles are self explanatory, but I'd like to speak to you on the phone if you have some time.

'There is more to this story... I appreciate your confidentiality.

'Best, Harvey.'

A spokesman for his laywer Benjamin Brafman told DailyMail.com on Thursday that the emails were an 'an attempt to be heard objectively.'

'As more information has been coming out suggesting that many of the original narratives were not entirely precise, combined with the difficulty in this era of getting the actual facts told, Harvey on his own initiative wrote letters to friends of his in an attempt to be heard objectively,' they said.

It is unclear who he sent it to or what the articles he linked to were but they were in reference to Detective Nicholas DiGaudio who withheld the testimony of a woman which undermined the allegations of Lucia Evans, an actress who claimed Weinstein forced her to perform oral sex on him in 2004.

He told Evans to delete information from her phone before handing it over, according to Weinstein's team, and also advised her that 'less is more' when advising her.

Evans was one of the three women whose allegations informed the NYPD indictment against Weinstein.

In October, the DA however dropped the charge which related to her after DiGaudio was removed from the case.  Deputy Chief Michael Osgood, the SVU commander, was also removed as a result.

Evans' claims were among those of two other women who alleged rape and sexual assault against him.

Their allegations still stand and Weinstein, who is next due in court on December 20, is facing five counts; first-degree rape, third-degree rape, two counts of predatory assault and one count of a criminal sex act. If convicted, he faces a minimum of 30 years behind bars.

At worst, he could be jailed for life.

Three NYPD officers including the Special Victims Unit Deputy Chief Michael Osgood (right) were removed over their handling of the Weinstein case, particularly evidence surrounding the allegation of Lucia Evans (left), an actress who said Weinstein forced her into oral sex in 2006. The sexual assault charge which her claim informed was dropped because of the officers' mishandling of the case

His lawyer, Benjamin Brafman, argued in his motion to dismiss that none of the five remaining charges should stick because the entire case has been tainted.

He also claimed to have evidence of exchanges between Weinstein and one of the other alleged victims which showed they had 'loving' interaction after the alleged attacks.

The emails to Weinstein's 'friends' coincide with him settling a separate claim with German actress who used the pseudonym 'Emma Loman' in a California court.

In August, Loman sued Weinstein over an alleged attack she said happened in Cannes in 2006. She claimed he raped her at Le Majestic Hotel then held her there against her will for an hour.

The lawsuit was one of two filed against him which alleged he had engaged in sexual trafficking by luring women to his suite to perform sex acts on him for commercial gain.

In a joint filing on Monday, both the actress's lawyers and Weinstein's told the judge they had committed to working on a settlement.

Separately, Weinstein is trying to settle allegations by other women in civil court with one sweeping sum which will be set up as a victims fund for the women who have filed civil cases against him.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
