«Breaking News» Grenfell Tower hero, 23, marries the fiancee he thought he'd never see again

A Grenfell Tower hero and the fiancée he thought he would never see again are to marry on Boxing Day.

Farhad Neda texted Nasrin Sadat 'goodbye, I love you' as smoke and flames raced towards their top floor flat in the West London tower block.

He managed to fight his way down 23 flights of stairs while carrying his frail mother, Flora. They became the only survivors from their floor, while Mr Neda's father, Mohamed, 57, leapt to his death.

Mr Neda, who was put in a coma after the incident, will marry Ms Sadat in front of 400 family and friends in a wedding in honour of his father, also known as Saber.

'The last time my whole family were together it was to bury my dad. Now we'll reunite for a happy occasion,' the Sunday Mirror reported him as saying.

'It will be hard to know my dad isn't there standing at my shoulder, guiding me. But he was so happy about our wedding, I know he'd want it to go ahead.'

The couple, who are both 23, had been engaged for 18 months before the disaster on June 14, 2017. They initially planned to get married in August but cancelled the ceremony after Mohamed's death.

Mr Neda said planning the ceremony had proved a 'lifeline' for his bereaved mother. 'She's done everything, all the planning, making lots of decisions,' he said.

The chauffeur gave testimony at the Grenfell inquiry in October, when a recording of his father's final phone call was played.

He said: 'Goodbye, we are leaving this world now, goodbye. I hope I haven't disappointed you. Goodbye to all.'

Saber fled the Taliban in Afghanistan to find a new home in Britain with his family, moving into Grenfell Tower with them in 1999.

They lived in flat 205 on the 23rd floor of the tower, Mr Neda said in a statement read out of his behalf, adding that he grew up in a home 'full of love and full of laughter'.

The statement recalled his 'unique' father - a popular chauffeur who always dressed smartly and encouraged him in his schooling and sporting life.

His father would drive him all over the country once he started competing at a national level in Taekwondo as a teenager, never complaining about the long distances

He was a man of 'deep integrity and fairness', Mr Neda said, adding: 'My father and I were a great team together. I felt so close to my dad, he was my best friend and is the man I admire most.'

He said in a separate written statement that his father had stayed behind to help other residents who were sheltering in the family's flat to prepare for an escape.

Mr Neda also used the hearing to criticise the London Fire Brigade who told residents for nearly two hours on the night of the blaze to remain within their homes – advice it is feared cost many lives.

Mr Neda and his family were among those who believed they were better off awaiting rescue, until it became apparent their situation was dire. Ms Sadat was in Amsterdam during the fire, where she was studying to become an architect.

The survivor told a hearing at Holborn Bars: 'Having been in the fire that night and not knowing what was going on outside or on the other floors of the tower and having heard the testimony of the firefighters, I feel that the residents were fatally let down.

'Having been in contact with the firefighters outside while I was inside the tower, I was on several occasions told that they were on their way to get us and I feel that this was false hope.

'I feel it is the false hope which prevented quite a number of people from escaping the tower that night.'

The family were forced to hold a second funeral for Saber after police officers lost a piece of his bone for six months before finding it in a washing machine.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
