«Breaking News» Chick-fil-A expected to soon become the third biggest fast food chain in America, displacing Subway

Chick-fil-A grew so fast this year, the Georgia-based chicken chain is expected to surpass Subway on the list of largest restaurant concepts even though its shops are only open six days a week.

The privately owned chicken sandwich franchise is making the push up the American restaurant charts earlier than the expected projections of 2020, MarketWatch reports citing Kalinowski Equity Research.

'We have long pointed out that Chick-fil-A is the restaurant competition with which McDonald's U.S. should most concern itself – and by extension, investors should too,' the note from Kalinowski Equity Research reads. 'But this goes beyond McDonald's.' 

Chick-fil-A sales are up 15.5 per cent this year with traffic increasing by 10 per cent, compared to 2017, when their system-wide sales of $9 billion were up 14.2 per cent.

This despite the late founder S. Truett Cathy's enduring legacy that stores remain closed on Sundays so that 'employees could set aside one day to rest and worship if they choose', according to the Chick-fil-A website. 

This year sales could possibly total more than $10 billion.

McDonald's held the top spot in 2017 with sales of $37.6 billion with Starbucks Corp. in second with $17.65 billion in sales.

MarketWatch also noted that Subway traffic has dropped by as much as 25 per cent over the past five years, and that Chick-fil-A still has a lot of room to expand. 

Chick-fil-A's presence in New York, a state of more than 19 million people, is only 11 restaurants, according to Kalinowski's research. This includes the 12,000 square foot, five-story tall location at One World Trade Center that opened in March. 

Other states like New Jersey, Massachusetts and Ohio are expected to add locations as well further competing with the larger chains.

The franchise is also gunning for another top seller of chicken sandwiches, Wendy's, now that Chick-fil-A is 'found much more readily' than in the past, according to Kalinowski. 

The rapid expansion of the franchise is underway despite past controversy regarding its religious roots other than the restriction on its hours of operation.

The company has been and boycotted in the past for having donated millions to organizations that oppose same-sex marriage and support conversion therapy, but Chick-fil-A has since stated they have ceased donating to such controversial groups. 

 'In any case, the odds are very good that Chick-fil-A takes the #3 position in 2019, even if it doesn't quite get there in 2018,' the Kalinowski note states in a caveat.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
