«Breaking News» Verne Troyer, Stanley Donen and more left out of Oscars memorial tribute

Verne Troyer, Stanley Donen, Carol Channing and Sandra Locke were among those left out of the in memoriam tribute at this year's Academy Awards

Viewers were quick to point out the talent who were omitted from the segment on Sunday night as Hollywood remembered those within the industry who have died in the last year.

Among the biggest name left out of the tribute was Singin' in the Rain co-director Stanley Donen.

Donen, who died last week of a heart attack at the age of 94, was also behind Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and Funny Face.

He worked with some of Hollywood's biggest stars, including Audrey Hepburn and Fred Astaire.

Donen won an honorary Oscar back in 1998 for his contributions to film.

Verne Troyer, best known for his Austin Powers role of Mini-Me, was also left out after his death in April last year.

The 49-year-old's death was ruled a suicide by alcohol intoxication.

Actress Carol Channing, who was a best supporting actress nominee in 1968 for Thoroughly Modern Millie, was also excluded.

Her furious publicist took to Facebook immediately after and slammed the film academy for excluding her.

'I am inconsolably heartsick that the Motion Picture Academy would ignore one of its own members and an Academy award nominee, Carol Channing, in the in memoriam,' Harlan Boll wrote.

'I texted a colleague of mine over at the Academy, to inquire how this could happen. In what may have been a miss guided (sic) attempt to soften the blow, I received the response that … "Well, she really wasn't that important to our industry and no one in Hollywood really knows who she was." WTF?!?!?!?!?'

Oscar-nominated actress Sondra Locke died in December but also failed to receive a mention in the memoriam.

She was nominated for her role in the 1968 film The Heart is a Lonely Hunter and starred repeatedly alongside Clint Eastwood.

Gary Kurtz, the producer behind Oscar nominated films American Graffiti and Star Wars, died of cancer in December aged 78.

Rambo producer Andy Vajna was also missing from this year's in memoriam tribute.

Arnold Schwarzenegger took to Twitter to express his disappointment about the omission.

'Last night was one of the best @TheAcademy Awards shows I've seen. Fantastic performances, smooth flow, and almost a perfect show. The only failure was leaving film icons like Andy Vajna, Carol Channing, R. Lee Emery, Dick Miller and others out of the In Memoriam tribute,' he tweeted.

'I'm, of course, upset about Andy's omission. He was a groundbreaking producer who showed that independent filmmakers could make blockbusters like Rambo, Tombstone, Total Recall, Terminator 2, & the list goes on. His movies created many thousands of jobs in Hollywood over decades.'

Other prominent film industry folk who were left out of the tribute segment included: actor Dick Miller, Golden Globe nominee R. Lee Ermey, theater actress Kaye Ballard, voice actor David Ogden Stiers and Spongebob Squarepants creator Stephen Hillenburg.

However Italian film director Bernardo Bertolucci's inclusion in the in memoriam section caused outrage among some viewers after a backlash over his infamous 1972 rape scene.

Bertolucci's 1972 film Last Tango In Paris had come under heavy scrutiny in recent years after actress Maria Schneider said she had not been warned in advance about the Marlon Brando rape scene, in which the American actor 'assaulted' her with butter as an apparent lubricant.

Bertolucci died in November last year.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
