«Breaking News» Oscars 2019: Richard E Grant vies for Best Supporting Actor gong

He is set to battle it out with favourite Mahershala Ali for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar gong at the 91st Annual Academy Awards.

And Richard E Grant brought his beloved daughter Olivia, 30, along for support, with the pair hitting the red carpet in style at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on Sunday.

The actor, 61, who has been nominated for his role in Can You Forgive Me?, looked overwhelmed with excitement and cheekily suggested his co-star Melissa McCarthy is having his twins.

Richard cut a dapper figure in a red crushed velvet suit blazer, which he teamed with a silver waistcoat and black bow tie.

Olivia, meanwhile, looked the picture of sophistication in a black floor-length gown with an asymmetric hemline. She complemented the look with court shoes and silver earrings.

During an interview with Ryan Seacrest, Grant gushed about his close relationship with his co-star Melissa McCarthy, joking: 'She's having twins in August, she's pregnant with my child.'

Confused by his British humour, Ryan asked Richard to repeat himself after misinterpreting his sarcasm.

One wrote on Twitter: 'Jesus. Seacrest was EXCRUCIATING with Richard E Grant. #oscars2019'

Another added: 'Did you see the red carpet and Richard E. Grant made a joke to Ryan Seacrest about Melissa McCarthy having his babies and Ryan believed it! They really don’t get the Brit humour do they!'

Richard took to Instagram earlier this week to share a sweet tribute to his daughter as he spoke of his delight at being able to take her to the Oscars.

The doting dad shared a throwback snap of him cuddling Olivia from a photoshoot just before they left the U.K.

He wrote: 'Permed 'wig' for a play back in 1993 and ecstatic to have my little @oliviagranted now all grown up and by my side for the magic carpet ride to the Oscars 24 years later!'

Richard got his first taste of success at the Independent Spirit Awards on Saturday where he was bestowed with the Best Supporting Male title for his portrayal of Jack in the biography.

Richard will compete against Mahershala Ali, Sam Elliott, Sam Rockwell and Adam Driver for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar.

Can You Ever Forgive Me? sees Melissa McCarthy step into the stilettos of celebrity biographer Lee Israel who makes her living profiling A-listers in the dramatic thriller film.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
