Rob Lowe said he felt 'humiliated' by a California college's decision to scrap reciting the Pledge of Allegiance because of its links to 'white nationalism.'

The Santa Barbara City College said last week it had decided to 'discontinue the use' of the Pledge of Allegiance to the American flag at meetings for reasons related to its history and symbolism.

However the board reversed the decision on Tuesday as members had 'First Amendment Rights' to comment which had to be respected.

Despite the u-turn, actor Rob Lowe took to Twitter to express his disapproval at initial decision.

The Parks and Recreation actor tweeted: 'Humiliated for Santa Barbara City College making national news for their idiocy.'

Santa Barbara City College (SBCC) Board of Trustees President Robert Miller  claimed the decision was taken to end the recitation of the pledge at meetings because of what he described as its 'history steeped in expressions of nativism and white nationalism.'

The timing of Lowe’s came as an ex-Santa Barbara City College adjunct professor Celeste Barber challenged the decision to cancel the Pledge.

'There’s nothing white nationalist about the Pledge of Allegiance,' Barber said on Fox & Friends

'There’s no reference to race, gender or ethnicity. It’s all-inclusive. That’s why thousands of school children recite it each day because it includes everyone that lives in this country.'

Lowe, 54, caused a stir earlier this month when he admitted he works hard to look good and maintain a healthy body.

In an interview with Men's Health he claimed: 'Men deny having vanity—that’s the greatest vanity. Not me. I’m vain as f**k.'

He also claims that he still feels the same way as he did at 28 thanks to a rigorous exercise regimen, a dedication to a low-carb diet and a love of outdoor sports.

The father-of-two added: 'I’m fitter than I’ve ever been. More experienced. Smarter,' said the actor, who landed his first major TV role in 1979 and whose breakthrough came in the 1983 film The Outsiders.

'I’m not looking at a 20-year-old kid in a cape as my due north. I’m looking at a guy like Springsteen.'

He said that a typical day starts with a 45-minute Peloton bike ride or a run.

He follows that with traditional lifting and circuit training. He prefers to exercise alone, saying: 'I don’t want to have the smoothie stand. I don’t want to look at beautiful women when I work out.'

The Santa...

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
