«Breaking News» NBC CEO takes some of the blame for Megyn Kelly's fall from Today

NBC's CEO is shouldering some of the blame of Megyn Kelly's disgraceful fall from the Today Show.

The 48-year-old host was unceremoniously booted from hosting the third hour of Today following her controversial blackface comments in October where she said it was okay for white people to wear the offensive costume.

NBCUniversal CEO Steve Burke, 60, took part of the blame for Kelly's flopped segment saying he personally hired her, adding: 'I went over and told [Kelly] she should come here.'

Burke also clarified that NBC News Chief Andy Lack isn't getting any heat for bringing Kelly to the network in early 2017, saying he's '100 percent behind Andy', in an interview with Variety.

'News organizations like ours should take risks...Megyn Kelly was a huge talent,' he said.

He reasoned that Kelly was at a disadvantage because her talk show Megyn Kelly Today wasn't scheduled on air at an optimal time.

'She was at the wrong time of day (on NBC). In hindsight we shouldn’t have done it. But it wasn’t Andy going off rogue,' he said in his interview.

Burke made no mention of the fact that Kelly also failed in the evening lineup with her show Megyn Kelly Tonight.

Kelly and the network reached a settlement on Friday which a source told DailyMail.com gave the embattled host a payout somehwerre between $25 and $30million, thus fulfilling her original $69million three-year contract.

As per the terms of her $30million severance agreement with the Peacock Network, Kelly will not be permitted to dish dirt about what took place behind the scenes at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, where her show was filmed.

Her show was cancelled following her defense of blackface in a segment about Halloween costumes.

In her final episode, she held back tears and apologized for those statements saying she realized 'such behavior is indeed wrong'. It was her last time on NBC.

Nielsen ratings show that in the two months since Kelly was ousted over her remarks on blackface, viewership has increased close to 20 percent in both the key demo and total audience.

In the Variety interview, Burke not only took responsibility for hiring Kelly, he adamantly defended his faith in Lack.

He applauded Lack's removal of Today show host Matt Lauer in November 2017 when he was accused of sexual misconduct.

'I'm 100 percent behind Andy. When the drumbeat began of "You gotta fire this guy" - a lot of that was really unfair,' he said.

'Matt Lauer was a grenade that we didn't know was a grenade. I was here seven years and I thought Matt lauer was the greatest interviewer in news,' he added.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
