«Breaking News» Archive footage shows aftermath of 1964 crash 'involving Prince Philip with Queen in passenger seat'

As police continue to investigate Prince Philip's serious collision near Sandringham last week, archive footage has emerged showing the aftermath of a crash in 1964 where the Duke reportedly ran another car off the road.

The shock incident took place as the Duke was driving the Queen through Holyport, near Windsor - and went largely unreported at the time.

But now footage of the moments after the crash has emerged including an interview with the other driver involved, known only as Mr Cooper.

Mr Cooper told a reporter at the scene that the Duke came 'straight for [him]' prior to the collision. He only sustained minor injuries in the crash, and told the Duke he was alright when questioned

The incident took place outside The Rising Sun pub in Holyport, Berkshire near Windsor Castle. The pub has since been re-named as The Sun and Stars

He recounts the incident in dramatic detail, saying: 'I started to signal and I pulled in at an angle on the road here - and the next thing I see is the Duke's car coming straight for me.

'He swerved and he just caught me off-side. He pushed me over right across this road into here.'

The archive footage shows the mangled side of Mr Cooper's vehicle, which has sustained significant damage on its left near the rear wheel arch.

Prince Philip's vehicle however, is nowhere to be seen in the grainy black and white footage - which is likely to have been broadcast at the time.

Mr Cooper also recounted how the Duke reacted to the 1964 crash - which took place outside the Rising Sun pub in June, saying: 'The Duke got out first and he just says "how are you?"

'And I says, "oh well I just grazed me knee sir" and he says "oh well that's good" and he went back to the Queen.'

There were no serious injuries in the collision and the aftermath footage was consigned to memory - until now.

Another witness to the crash is featured in the archive footage, a Mrs Clark who recalls asking the Queen if she was alright - and even helping her out of the car.

She says: 'The man was alright, that was driving the other car, so I saw a lady sitting in the other car.

'I went over and said 'are you all right' kind of thing, you know, and helped [her] out of the car, kind of got hold of her arm, and helped her out

'She said "Yes, I'm alright thank you, how's the other chap?" or the "other fellow" or something, it was all a bit confused, someone said to me "that's the Queen" and I jumped six feet back here and left it at that.'

The Rising Sun pub, next to which the crash took place, changed its name to The Sun and Stars in the years after the crash - but is now permanently closed.

Norfolk Police continues to investigate the Duke's crash earlier this year near Sandringham on Thursday, January 17.

The accident happened as Philip pulled out of a side road on to the 60mph limit A149 road. His Land Rover collided with a Kia car, sending his vehicle tumbling across the road where it ended up on its side.

The 28-year-old woman driver of the Kia suffered a knee injury and her 46-year-old woman passenger sustained a broken wrist.

A nine-month-old boy strapped into the back seat escaped serious injury.

Philip told people at the scene that the crash happened after he was dazzled by the low sun.

But 46-year-old Emma Fairweather, who sustained a broken wrist in the collision, claims the weather was not as the Prince reportedly described - claiming it was 'overcast' that day.

And has now called to the Duke to stop driving, telling the Sunday Mirror: 'I respect that he's entitled to his life but he has other options to use other than driving.

'I very much hope he'll consider stopping. There's no reason why he ought to be driving at almost 100 years old.

'I understand why he would want to keep driving as long as he can and the law allows that.

'It doesn't matter if we're talking about the Queen, Prince Philip or my next door neighbour.'

Philip was pictured driving a new Land Rover without a seatbelt just 48 hours after the crash.

Police spoke to the duke about the legal requirement to wear a belt and he also underwent an eyesight test, which he passed.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
