A North Carolina woman has been sentenced to more than five years in prison for a nationwide adoption scam that devastated 17 couples.
Wendy George, 39, pleaded guilty on Friday to 10 counts of obtaining property by false pretenses, one count of felony accessing a computer to perpetuate fraud, and one count of Medicaid fraud.
She was sentenced to serve 50 to 64 months in prison as well as an additional 22 to 37 months, which was suspended for three years of supervised probation.
In November 2016 George posted on social media and various adoption websites that she was expecting and wanted to give up her baby for adoption.
But George was never pregnant.

Instead George obtained a positive pregnancy test using her pregnant friend's urine that she then used to receive Medicaid benefits from the Department of Social Services.
George also paid her pregnant friend $20 to get an ultrasound in her name so that she could send the image as proof to couples who who responded to her posts, according to WWAY.
At least 17 couples from across the US entered into discussions with George about adopting her alleged child, even sending her hundreds of dollars when she asked for help to pay for food, housing, and doctor appointments.
It wasn't until February 2017 that an Ohio couple became suspicious and called the Carolina Beach Police Department.

This is hardly George's first run in with the law.

In 2012 she was convicted of 16 fraud charges in New Hanover County for a condo scam.
George rented out condos on Craigslist and collected payment before her guests arrived.
It was only after the vacationers got to the listed address - or couldn't get into the building - that they realized they had been scammed.
Two years later, George pulled off a similar scam and rented a beach condo on Craigslist to a couple, collected their money, and then never sent them the unit number.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
