«Breaking News» Report shows 'house pies' on display in New York pizzerias are larger than pizzas sold by the box

An investigation into an iconic staple of New York City, pizza, reveals a potentially scandalous discrepancy in size between pies displayed in shop windows versus the pies packaged in boxes for takeout and delivery. 

A common practice among Big Apple pizzerias is to make much larger pizza pies for the display cases that feature the items customers can buy for the slice, according to John Crudele at the New York Post.

Large pies boxed whole to go with the customer tend to be 16 inches in diameter, according to the Post, while the ones showcased are approximately 20 inches.  

Calculations done by the paper about general pricing, where a $15, 16-inch pie is compared to $2.50 per slice display pie, leads to an advantage of a penny-per-square-inch for the pies under glass.

Admittedly, adding toppings like meat or vegetables can alter the per slice pricing in the report.  

A search for 'pizza' in the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene's restaurant information database lists 1,201 businesses which could suggest a very widespread deception. 

Crudele says he first noticed the discrepancy when he asked for one of the pies sitting in a display case at his local pizza place since he planned on freezing and re-heating it later. 

At first, the store employee refused, letting the columnist in on the secret that those pies sitting out in the open were larger than their made-to-order, boxed counterparts. 

When the man behind the counter finally relented, Crudele reported the pie was indeed larger than the box provided.

Calculations suggest boxed pies provide slices that are rough a penny-per-square-inch more expensive than the display slices

Toppings on a pizza can change the rough calculations as certain meat products would certainly be more expensive than veggies

This led the Post to call around and find that this isn't a practice confined to a single pizza restaurant. Crudele even confirmed the discrepancy existed at a State Island establishment that referred to their 'house pies.'

'Are those the larger pizzas that you sell by the piece?' Crudele asked.

To the surprise and displeasure of his fellow customers, the pizza shop employee confirmed that they were.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
