Brexit, Russian spies, extreme weather and football mania featured heavily in the news agenda last year.
These poignant photographs illustrate Britain in pictures as the Royal Family continued to hit the headlines starting with the engagement of Princess Eugenie and her long-term boyfriend Jack Brooksbank in January.
Extreme weather courtesy of the 'Beast from the East' froze the British Isles in February. The 'beast' produced the coldest weather in five years, hitting transport and closing hundreds of schools.
Facebook dominated the headlines: a year-long investigation by the Observer revealed million of profiles on the social media site had been harvested by data analytics firm Cambridge Analytica.
The shots also depict the moment former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia were found seriously ill on a bench in Salisbury after being poisoned by nerve-agent Novichok.
The political agenda was then dominated by the Windrush scandal in April when it was revealed that some immigrants who arrived from the Commonwealth decades ago as children had been told they were in the UK illegally and faced deportation.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge welcomed the birth of their third child, Prince Louis Arthur Charles, who is fifth in line to the throne, on April 23. But the next month, Harry was firmly back at the top of the royal news agenda with the world watching as he wed US actress Meghan Markle in a ceremony at Windsor Castle.
The summer months saw a six week heatwave as England made it to the semi-finals of the World Cup for the first time since 1990.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
