A mother drowned her four-year-old daughter in the bath and then set fire to her body in the garden after telling her 'You're going to see the angels. See you in heaven,' a court heard.
Amelia Brooke Harris was found dead on a sheet under a coffee table by police in the garden of her home in a South Wales village.
Her body was 'taken out of the bath, wrapped in toilet paper and carried outside covered in a sheet'.
A jury heard her mother Carly Ann Harris, 38, was suffering from mental health issues when she killed her 'fun-loving, bubbly little girl.'
Carly Ann Harris, left, is accused of murdering daughter Amelia, four, right, by drowning her in a bath and then setting fire to her body
Prosecutor Michael Jones said: 'Amelia was four years old when she was killed.
'On that day, Carly Ann Harris placed Amelia in a bath full of water and deliberately drowned her.'
He added: 'She placed her body on a coffee table situated in the garden and then set fire to Amelia's body.'
Mr Jones said a neighbour heard at 9.15pm what sounded like a little girl screaming 'mammy, mammy, mammy'.
The court heard at 10pm Harris appeared outside the house and said: 'Amelia has gone to heaven. Don't go out the back, she's gone to heaven.
'God will be with her. The angels have taken her.'
The neighbour called 999 at around 10.15pm. A witness later said they saw a coffee table and a 'charred black leg'.
Mr Jones said: 'The dead body of Amelia was lying on that table. They could smell the burning body.'
Police officers arrived at the scene and made their way to the garden.
Mr Jones said: 'As the officers approached one of the paramedics lifted the sheet. It was Amelia.'
The court heard Harris told police: 'The angels told me to do it. Just arrest me, it's okay.'
When she was cautioned, she said: 'Jesus told me to do it.'
Harris said: 'She will be okay. Trust me. I'm not crazy, I promise you.
'I promise you I wouldn't do that to my only girl if she wasn't returning.'
Mr Jones told how the little girl's body was found outside their home in Tonypandy, Rhondda, South Wales, at 10.20pm on June 8 this year.
Later at the police station, Harris said: 'I deserve to die. What the f***? My little girl. The angels said it must be done.'
The court heard she also said: 'I'm a monster.'
She told police she had been having 'visions of angels' and was required to 'sacrifice her daughter in order to prove my faith'.
She said she should have carried it out the day before because 'the stars were in line with the dots on her cheeks'.
Harris said: 'It was to prove my faith. I'd been having these signs from these angels.'
The court heard Harris described herself as a 'a fallen angel and had to prove her strength' and that Amelia would have to be 'cold-washed and burned'.
Harris, pictured outside court, was suffering from mental health issues when she killed her daughter and could be found guilty of manslaughter by diminished responsibility
Harris said she had taken amphetamine her 'more aware' and 'opened her third eye'.
Amelia was wearing a flowery jumpsuit and eating sweets when her mother told her: 'You're going to see the angels. See you in heaven.'
Mr Jones said she drowned her in the bath and covered her in a white sheet.
She put toilet roll around her body and set her alight.
The court heard she was suffering from 'anxiety and believed people were stalking her.'
Mr Jones said: 'She had profound mental health issues.'
In the weeks leading up to the incident, a member of Harris' family described her as 'not being well for a number of days' but she had seemed happier on the day of the tragedy.
The court heard how a friend asked if she wanted to go to the play centre.
But Harris replied she 'would not have Amelia the next day'.
A post-mortem examination found Amelia had drowned and was not alive during the fire.
Two psychiatrists agreed that Harris had been suffering from paranoid schizophrenia.
The court heard Harris had previously reported Amelia was abducted when she was actually safe in school.
Prosecutor Mr Jones said: 'She developed a paranoid psychosis which was triggered by a landslide behind her house which she believed had sinister meaning.
'She believed she was being tested by God.'
'During one interview she did not know if she had become an angel or achieved some form of immortality.'
She told the doctor: 'I felt like I had died and been resurrected.'
The psychiatrist said: 'Harris was suffering from a disease of the mind.
'She was as suffering from such a deficiency of the mind that she did not realise what she was doing was wrong.
Harris said she felt like she had 'become an angel herself.'
The court heard Harris, right, told police 'the angels told me to do it' after killing her daughter, pictured left
The court Harris had apologised to her daughter and said: 'You're safe now.'
She told the doctor she was 'broken-hearted' but felt spiritually enlightened.
Harris said as she burnt, the clouds turned pink. She thought she saw God and the devil facing each other.
She said: 'I'm not a bad person. I miss her terribly.'
Harris said it did not feel like a 'crazy action' because she was acting according to her soul.
Dr Philip Joseph, another consultant psychiatrist, said she had a urinary tract infection in 2014 and developed psychotic symptoms.
He found she was suffering from paranoid psychosis, probably paranoid schizophrenia.
He said: 'She did not know what she was doing was wrong.'
The court heard there was a family history of mental health problems, including bipolar disorder.
In February 2018, she was seen by her GP and reported someone had been shining a green laser through her window from a cemetery that made her feel like she was in a 'matrix'.
She was assessed in March and appeared 'irrational, paranoid and anxious'.
Mr Jones told the jury: 'Although this is obviously a harrowing and tragic case, it is important you put any emotions aside as you listen to this case.
'There is no dispute as to what Harris did that day. The evidence that you hear is not in dispute.
'You will hear psychiatric evidence to the profound and overwhelming mental health issues that affect and continue to affect Harris.'
Mr Jones also described the case as 'exceptional'.
He said the experts agree the defendant did not know what she was doing was wrong.
The prosecutor added: 'As horrific and unimaginable as this was her mental health condition was so profound it attracts a special verdict in law.'
The 'special verdict' is not guilty of murder by reason of insanity.
She denied murder and manslaughter at Newport Crown Court.
The judge told the the jury they must decide if she is not guilty of murder by reason of insanity or guilty of manslaughter by reason of diminsished responsibility.
Harris, of Tonypandy, Rhondda, sobbed during the opening of the trial and had to be given a glass of water.
The trial continues.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
