Two teenagers have been killed in a road crash involving a suspected drink-driver.

Police confirmed a man and woman, both 19, were killed in a car crash at the Lincoln bypass in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The 26-year-old suspect was arrested after providing a positive breath test following the fatal collision at 12.50am on the A46.

The occupants of a blue Ford Mondeo estate, a man and a woman aged 19, were pronounced dead at the scene following the collision with a white Citroen C3.

Launching an appeal for information, a Lincolnshire Police spokesman said: 'We have traced the immediate family of the victims and broken this desperately sad news to them.

'Anyone who was on the bypass between the Carholme and Skellingthorpe roundabouts between about 12.30am and 12.50am and saw either the white Citroen C3 or the blue Mondeo estate before the collision, or saw the collision itself, is asked to contact police on 101.'

The road has since reopened.

Police have not commented on local reports that three men left the scene of the crash and two were located after their taxi was stopped by officers.

One said: 'The helicopter was circling North Hykeham at 3.24 this morning, Asda way. I live round there and it was so loud and low. I guess they caught him at home, from this area.'

Hannah Cann added: 'I heard the police helicopter out searching in the early hours. Unbelievably sad for the families of those two young people.'

One female taxi driver in the area posted that she had picked up two lads but they were followed and stopped by police.

Samantha Everritt said: 'Can't believe they drove off to begin with!

'Bet they thought they'd get away with it so I'm glad they traced the car so they can be prosecuted. So sad for the families so close to Christmas.'

Cathy Chamberlain added: 'How heart breakingly sad. Sad anytime but so close to Christmas.

'Sending thoughts to the parents of the two youngsters. Tragic end to their young lives.'

Sue Grant said: 'Heartbreaking that two families have had the dreaded knock at the door.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
