A doorbell camera at a Houston home last week captured an elderly man dressed in a blue button-down shirt with a briefcase in hand looking confused on the day police say he beat his wife to death.

Family members have since revealed that the murder suspect, 80-year-old Richard Engelbrink, was diagnosed with a brain tumor earlier this year.

According to police, just an hour after Engelbrink was seen on surveillance video ringing a neighbor's doorbell on Thursday morning, he attacked his wife of 46 years and delivered fatal blows to her head with an unknown weapon.

Alice Engelbrink, 71, was found lying next to a fence covered in blood and later died in a hospital.

The couple's neighbor Matthew Salo said when he later reviewed footage recorded by his Ring camera, he saw Engelbrink trying to open his locked door at 10.47am on Thursday.

According to the homeowner, Alice stood just out of the frame and could be heard questioning her husband's bizarre behavior.

'I don’t understand what you’re doing. Why are you acting like this?' Mrs Engelbrink demanded.

An hour later, police were called to the scene on Faust Lane for reports of a domestic dispute.

There, responding officers found Alice lying next to a neighbor’s home with a massive wound on her head.

On Saturday, the couple's relatives publicly addressed the deadly incident and shed light on Richard's medical complications.

‘Our family is grieving the loss of our mother. Our father is mentally incapacitated due to a brain tumor,’ the family said in a statement to Houston Chronicle. ‘Our family knows that he loved his wife dearly, and we view this as a horrific tragedy. Please respect our family’s wishes for privacy during this time of grief.’

Neighbors have known about Engelbrink's diagnosis since June, when he briefly went missing and police had to be summoned to locate him.

Salo, the neighbor with the Ring camera, said Alice told him at the time that her husband had a benign but inoperable tumor in his brain, and that he was growing distressful of doctors.

Salo said he believes Engelbrink did not recognize his wife when he attacked her on Thursday.

Witnesses told ABC 13 they saw Engelbrink running door-to-door appearing to look for help.

The outlet reported that blood smears were found on several doorbells.

A construction worker in the area told ABC that he saw Engelbrink running from one neighbor's home to the next. The worker said minutes later Engelbrinks' wife emerged from the couple's home screaming for help. He said she was covered in so much blood it was hard to recognize her.

'She was saying, "Help, help, help!"' the construction worker said. 'Blood all over her.'

The worker said he called 911, but by then Engelbrink was nowhere to be found.

Alice, a successful CPA in the area, was rushed to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital, where she later died, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Prosecutors said during a hearing on Friday a neighbor had let Engelbrink into her home.

'The defendant came to her house covered in blood. The witness said the defendant began washing his hands in her bathroom at which point she began calling 911 and he left the residence,' the prosecutor said.

Engelbrink was later found washing his wife's blood off his hands in the bathroom of a Chase bank about a mile from the crime scene. Police said they investigated and found he had a bloody gun on him.

Engelbrink was arrested and has been charged with murder.

He did not appear in court for medical reasons, ABC reports, but his charges were read and his bond was set at $50,000.

Linus Lee, who lives two houses down, told ABC that he was shocked by the murder. He described Engelbrink as a nice man and said the couple had lived in the home for more than 20 years.

They had recently moved back into the house after it was renovated following Hurricane Harvey.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
