In the 17th century, the property was visited a number of times by Cromwell to ensure its owners did not show any signs of royalist support. Pictured are exposed wooden beams in one of the lofts, which are thought to date back as far as the 16th-century

The hotel has a mixture of period features from over the years, including historic fireplaces (like this one, pictured) and stained glass panels. In the 1950s, it was turned into a luxury hotel that was popular with A-list guests, including pop star Kylie Minogue, who often stayed when visiting her Welsh grandmother, and racing driver Nigel Mansell

Jackie Kennedy and Teddy Kennedy, JFK's younger brother, stayed at the hotel in 1985 when they came to the UK to attend the funeral of Lord Harlech, the president's childhood friend. David Attenborough also came as a guest

Actors Richard Gere and Sean Connery stayed at the hotel when they filmed First Knight in 1995.

Some of the film was shot on location nearby in Gwynedd, where a former nuclear power station was transformed into the exterior of Camelot.

The house has just under 13,000 square feet of floor space with seven reception rooms, a kitchen and preparation room and 13 bedroom suites

There are about an acre of formal gardens with a water feature supplied by a mountain stream.

A further 5.9 acres of land include a Victorian pool, mature woodland, a walled kitchen garden, two greenhouses and paddocks.

Alastair Summerfield, of Strutt & Parker, said: 'It is probably too substantial to be a family home so we're looking at this continuing as a hotel or possibly an upmarket B&B.

'In the past it's been an incredibly successful hotel and has even had famous guests like Nigel Mansell - who was in his pomp at the time.

'While the celebrity element is a very nice factor, it won't necessarily impact on the sale.

'We don't expect this to be on the market for long. People wait for years for the right property and this ticks a lot of boxes.'

The Grade ...

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
