«Breaking News» Passengers are kept on Amtrak train from New York to Boston for FIVE HOURS with no working toilets

Passengers on board an Amtrak train from New York to Boston were stuck on it at a standstill for more than five hours on Sunday with no working toilets.

The Acela express train left Penn Station at 9.40am and was due to arrive in Boston four hours later at 1.35pm.

But soon after it left New York, a power outage caused by debris on the overhead lines brought it to a standstill in Queens.

Rather than be towed back to Penn Station, the train remained there for five hours before moving off again.

Outraged passengers began tweeting to document their frustration.

'I find it amazing that we have to sit on this train for over 2 hrs when we are right outside NY Penn Station.

'Aside from getting pushed back to NY, the plan from there is hope. Unbelievable,' said one passenger.

A rescue motor was brought to the train to get it moving but it was quickly stopped again when passengers reported smelling 'smoke'.

After disconnecting its Diesel engine, the train started moving again at around 4pm.

It made an unscheduled stop in New Rochelle to let passengers off then carried on towards Boston, eventually arriving at 8.29pm.

It is unclear why it took so long for the rescue motor to be brought to the train or why it was not towed back to Penn Station.

Amtrak tweeted about the incident, on Sunday afternoon after it started moving again for the first time but was inundated with complaints from worried parents whose children were on the service.

Among them were people whose kids were on their way back to college.

They said they had nothing to eat or drink and were feeling 'sick'.

'My daughter is on this train trying to get back to college. She has had no food or water since 9:30 this morning and the toilets are clogged.

'Amtrak keeps giving wrong info!' one furious parent said.

'My son is starting to feel sick no good or drink. Are they bringing food on train for them?' another asked.

Other passengers replied to tell them to go to the cafe car where food and water was being given out for free.

They praised the conductors and other staff on board for 'doing their best' throughout the debacle.

An Amtrak spokesman told DailyMail.com on Monday that the train was stopped at 'approximately 9.51am' and arrived 'around 8.19pm'. Passengers tweeted about being stopped as early as 9.42am.

'There were pantograph damage caused by debris in the catenary.

'The train was stopped at approximately 9:51 am In Queens and was on the move again at around 3:45.

'It arrived in Boston around 8:19 pm. Customers were accommodated with food and non-alcoholic beverages,' they said.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
