«Breaking News» LG patents 'hexacamera' with 16 lenses that can create 3D images and cut people out of your photos

First, there was Apple's dual-camera system. Then came Huawei's triple-camera setup.

Now, LG has its eyes fixed on outdoing all the rest if its latest patented technology makes it into real smartphones. 

The South Korean tech giant has filed a patent for a smartphone with a whopping 16 camera lenses fitted onto the back of the device.

In the patent, which was filed in 2014 but only recently made public, LG describes building a curved mechanism on the phone's rear panel that could house several camera lenses.

The lenses are arranged in a 4x4 design, so that the camera can capture an image from numerous angles at once. 

According to the patent, this would enable several innovative uses, ranging from 3D movies to the ability to stitch several different shots into a single image.

The patent also describes users being able to use the multi-image feature to cut certain subjects out of the photo or edit out objects and other errors. 

To do so, users can trace around an object in the photo with their finger and move them around or take them out of the frame entirely. 

'If any one of the graphic objects...is selected, the image of the select part, that is, the image of the head part may be replaced with a part of the image of taken from any one of the lenses corresponding to the rotation direction selected by the user,' the patent states.

What's more, the phone would use facial recognition to look for other snapshots of a person that would replace their head with one from a better photo. 

Users could also rotate the head of a subject in a photo to find the best angle.

For selfie fiends, the 16-lens camera would be equipped with a camera that lets users take high-quality, front-facing photos.

Like most patents, it's unclear if the technology will ever come to fruition. 

But if LG's five-lens camera system on the V40 ThinQ is any indicator, the firm is likely looking to up the ante in future phones.  

NOKIA'S FIVE-LENS SMARTPHONE 

Nokia is reportedly building a handset with five lenses.

Believed to be called to Nokia 10, the mysterious handset has been rumoured for several months.

By using different lenses, it is hoped to dramatically boost the capabilities of the handset in areas like augmented reality and 3D effects.

The camera module includes five lenses arranged in what looks like a circle, with prominent Zeiss branding. 

HMD Global, the Finnish company that licensed the rights to produce Nokia phones, teamed up with Zeiss last year.

It also recently bought the rights to the PureView brand from Microsoft, which could see the mystery handsetbranded the firm's first 'new' Pureview Android handset.

It claims the lenses could each be used for a different purpose - telephoto, black and white, color, blur, and multi-lens pixel synthesis.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
