«Breaking News» Corbyn REFUSES to sign up to BBC debate with May unless format is changed

The prospects of a TV Brexit showdown between Theresa May and Jeremy Corbyn appear to have faded after talks hit deadlock.

The PM has signed up for a BBC programme to take place just two days before the crunch Commons vote on her package.

But the Labour leader has made clear he will only take part if the corporation agrees to change the format to suit him.

Meanwhile, Channel 4 have been attempting to put together a rival debate, with Boris Johnson and Toy Blair on their wishlist.

Mrs May laid down the gauntlet to Mr Corbyn for a debate last week as she battles to get her controversial EU package through the Commons.

More than 100 Tory MPs have vowed to oppose the deal alongside Labour, the SNP and Lib Dems - meaning unless the PM can do something to turn the tide she faces a catastrophic defeat.

Downing Street last week agreed she will appear on a BBC programme on Sunday December 9.

Under the plan, the leaders would take question from a panel, including commentators and politicians, as well as debating with each other. The format appears to be designed to minimise the risk of legal challenges about a lack of balance.

Mrs May had already agreed to 'accommodate' Mr Corbyn by doing the event on the Sunday rather than Thursday, as had originally been floated by the BBC.

However, the Labour leader has been holding out for a rival ITV proposal to aid just before the I'm A Celebrity final.

In a tweet last night, Mr Corbyn made clear he would only go with the BBC if the format is changed.

'Theresa May said she wanted a head to head debate with me on her botched Brexit deal and I am ready to do that,' he said.

'ITV have a straightforward plan. If she and her team prefer BBC, she should join me in asking them to arrange an actual head-to-head debate.'

In a statement, the BBC said: 'Our proposal is to broadcast a programme which includes both a head-to-head debate between the Prime Minister and the leader of the opposition and also an opportunity to hear from a wider range of voices.

'After all, a broad range of views on this issue is held by the public and by Parliamentarians - from those who want a different form of Brexit to those who want another public vote - and we believe that should be reflected in the debate.'

If agreement cannot be reached, the leaders could well try to press ahead with separate programmes.

Channel 4 is planning to steal a march by staging its own debate with other high-profile Brexiteers and Remainers.

Mr Johnson last week condemned the idea of a head-to-head showdown between Mr Corbyn and Mrs May, saying they were both Remainers.

However, friends of the former foreign secretary have made clear he is not interested in the 'second string' clash - and the Remain camp would be unwilling to field Mr Blair.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
