«Breaking News» Harvard runner wins 3,000-meter race with one shoe and 'raw' toes

A Harvard distance runner proved Saturday he wasn't going to let the small matter of losing one of his shoes stop him from becoming a winner.

Kieran Tuntivate's left shoe came loose around 300 meters and ultimately fell off during the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships in Cambridge, Massachusetts, but he continued to forge ahead moving up from third place to scoop first place.

'I kind of jogged around uncomfortably for another 100 or 200 meters to try to pull it on without stopping. At around 400 or 500 meters, I just let it come off, and I tried to calm down, relax and not think about it as long as I could, Tuntivate, who's from Wilmington, Delaware, told The Washington Post

Tuntivate, 22, a senior at Harvard, added he started to really notice the discomfort around 2,000 meters in.

'I felt the skin start to peel away, and then it clumped up underneath my foot, and it felt like running on a pebble,' he said. 'The final lap was probably the hardest. It was a tough sprint to the finish... I really zoned out pretty hard during that middle section between my shoe coming off and when it started to get painful.'

He did try to stick to his race plan though which saw him and his teammate sit back until about 1,800 meters and then advance.

When he felt his shoe becoming loose, Tuntivate said he contemplated stopping to tighten it and running to catch up, but thought if he 'stopped the moment might get away from me.'

Tuntivate documented his plight on Instagram, even sharing a photo of his foot peeling, showing the raw flesh underneath with the caption, 'if anyone has seen the rest of my toe pls let me know.'

To date, his photos have drawn over 2,000 likes and hundreds of comments.

Four days after the injury, Tuntivate posted another photo showing his foot peeling but scabbing over in other areas.

The senior said he drew on his mental fortitude to be able to finish the race.

'I was confident if I sprinted that last lap, I knew I could get through the pain,' he added.

To the amazement of the crowd, he powered over the winning line to be greeted with cheers and applause from spectators.

Despite being put on crutches by his coach, the next day Tuntivate ran the 5,000-meter race and won again, this time crossing the finishing line, wearing both shoes.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
