«Breaking News» Movie buff's photos show what filming locations look like today, with side-by-side comparisons

A film and TV buff has photographed hundreds of movie locations and compared them side-by-side with how they appeared on the silver screen.

Steve Peterson, 37, who lives in Florida, told MailOnline Travel that he has great fun hunting down the spots and friends and family enjoy seeing his comparison photos, which he uploads to his Instagram account @hollywood_irl.

To date he has travelled to Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Atlanta, Hawaii, Wilmington in North Carolina and Georgia to retrace the steps of some of his favourite screen stars, from Tom Hanks in Forrest Gump to Jake Gyllenhaal in Donnie Darko.

While some of the filming locations look markedly different - for instance, a bed of plants is in place of the famed bench in Forrest Gump and the McCallister mansion from Home Alone is unrecognisable without its Christmas garb - many of the spots look pretty much unchanged.

Some photos reveal how set designers cleverly transformed locations with a lick of paint or props. Scroll down to take a tour through some of the world's most well-known film sets, through Mr Peterson's lens...

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
