«Breaking News» Hollyoaks' Nadine Mulkerrin and Rory Douglas-Speed get engaged weeks after their characters married

Hollyoaks co-stars Nadine Mulkerrin and Rory Douglas-Speed have got engaged.

The real-life couple filmed their characters' Cleo McQueen and Joel Dexter's wedding just weeks ago, and now the pair are set to go through their own real ceremony. 

Rory, 26, announced the joyous news on Instagram on Monday, alongside a picture of his new fiancee flashing her engagement ring.

Rory got down on one knee during a romantic holiday in Amsterdam, and shared a series of snaps and videos captioned: 'She said yes!! Swipe for reaction >>> (sic)'

The star also uploaded a video he had taken straight after popping the question, which showed Nadine, 25, jigging along the corridor and punching the air as Douglas tried not to laugh. 

A final sweet snap showed the pair on an ice rink beaming as they snuggled up close to one another. 

Nadine also posted pictures of herself showing off her engagement band as shared a kiss with Rory in a photobooth, adding the caption: 'Yes. @rorydouglasspeed (sic)'

The pair were immediately flooded with well-wsihes from both fans and their Hollyoaks' co-stars. 

Among them were Stephanie Davis (Sinead O'Connor) who commented, 'YESSSS. So beautiful I'm welling up here xxxx Rory you cute thing!!!! Xx'.

Chelsee Healey, who plays Goldie McQueen, added, 'Omggggggg congratulations love you both im guna cry now thanks ta bye'. [sic]

The soap power couple's engagement news comes just two months after they pranked their parents, pretending they had got married after filming their characters' big day. 

Rory admitted: 'It's been so strange filming a wedding as we are together. Even back when Joel and Cleo got engaged I was so nervous, I went bright red. I was terrified - genuinely I was not acting in those scenes!

'It makes it interesting and Nadine and I have a laugh about it. We sent my family pictures of us in our characters' wedding day costumes pretending we had eloped!

'We joke that it's a rehearsal for us.'

Joel and Cleo - who suffers from bulimia - tied the knot in a special Hollyoaks episode to coincide with World Mental Health Day.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
