'The safety of our customers and crew is always Delta's top priority. Delta dispatched an alternate aircraft to continue the flight to Seattle.'

No injuries were reported in the emergency landing.

Delta sent a new crew to operate the new aircraft and also sent technicians and customer service agents.

A few people from the flight took to their social media to share what was happening while they tried to make the journey to Seattle.

One user said: 'So... I'm on my flight back to NYC, and the captain just said there's something wrong with the engine and we are going to land on some island in 40 mins... Okay fine I'll swim.'

'I'm still alive! So... we lost one engine, landed on a US air force base in Alaska in the middle of the ocean,' said one user. 'Delta sent another plane from Seattle to pick us up, and after waiting for 12 hours we are finally on the flight back what a great story to tell my grandchildren.'

Prakhar Khanduja added: 'Finally on the way to Seattle after spending the last 12 hours on an island in the middle of Pacific North Pole. Wish I hadn’t left PEK. #DL128'

One user did try to enjoy the holiday spirit and said: 'Asking for the children of the world. @Delta can confirm the reports are wrong that flight #DL128 that diverted to Shemya(SYA) this morning ingested in the engine, a figure flying in a red coat and about a dozen reindeer?'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
