«Breaking News» ANDREW PIERCE: Bercow plots to stay on despite calls for him to quit as Speaker

Just about everyone at Westminster is assuming that the insufferably pompous John Bercow will finally quit next year after a decade as the Speaker.

He should have departed earlier this year, because he became Speaker in 2009 and promised to go after nine years — but needless to say he did not.

However, his many enemies in the House were given hope when, after the recent publication of the Cox report into bullying at Westminster, those close to Bercow suggested he would step down next summer.

Bercow himself has been accused of bullying, although not in the report and he has always denied the allegations. Yet hopes of him leaving are to be dashed, it appears. Several senior sources have told me that Bercow — who cannot conceal his disdain for the Tories or Brexit — is determined once more to cling on for as long as he can, encouraged by the parlous state of the Tory Party.

‘Only if Labour MPs tire of him will he be forced out,’ said one of them. But while he’s helping Labour so overtly in the Commons, they're unlikely to do that anytime soon.

Bragg begs to differ 

IT’S not just Theresa May who has attacked Tony Blair’s call for a second referendum. The Blairite Labour peer Melvyn Bragg, under the heading ‘No more referendums’, writes in Prospect magazine: ‘Beware of holding another Brexit referendum. The first one damaged the country immensely, and a second could make matters even worse.’

 Most people would assume the House of Commons always prioritises buying British food. Not a bit of it. Lib Dem MP Tom Brake, spokesman for the commission which runs Parliament, explains: ‘As specified in the European Parliament, we are subject to EU Public Sector Procurement directives. It is therefore impossible for us to demand that we wish to buy only British products.’ Another reason to leave.

Momentum founder Jon Lansman, whose 40,000 activists are plotting to oust Labour moderates to cement the position of Comrade Corbyn, reveals in the New Statesman that his father was a Tory councillor. ‘We used to have lots of arguments,’ says Lansman. Imagine the arguments they’d be having today . . . 

Labour MP Roger Godsiff has declared in the Register of Members’ Interests a trip he took to act as an observer for the presidential elections in the Maldives. Accompanied by his wife, the beano cost £8,275.66. Nice work if you can get it.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
