President Trump mocked comedian Michelle Wolf claiming that her performance at this year's White House Correspondents' Dinner was so bad that the organization decided to split from tradition the next time around.
The White House Correspondents Association announced this week that Pulitzer Prize-winning biographer Ron Chernow will speak at the annual glamorous event slated for April 27, 2019.
The association's decision not to invite a comedian to host is believed to be in response to Wolf's scathing and controversial speech at the last event.
Trump responded to the news on Twitter Tuesday, writing: 'So-called comedian Michelle Wolf bombed so badly last year at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner that this year, for the first time in decades, they will have an author instead of a comedian. Good first step in comeback of a dying evening and tradition!
The president, who has yet to attend the event during his term, added: 'Maybe I will go?'
Wolf bashed the WHCA's decision to invite Chernow on Monday, tweeting: 'The @whca are cowards. The media is complicit. And I couldn't be prouder.'
President Trump mocked comedian Michelle Wolf on Twitter Tuesday by saying that her performance at the 2018 White House Correspondents' Dinner was so bad that the organization decided to split from the tradition of having a comedian host in 2019
The White House Correspondents Association announced this week that Pulitzer Prize-winning biographer Ron Chernow will speak at the annual glamorous event slated for April 27, 2019. The association's decision not to invite a comedian to host is believed to be in response to Wolf's scathing and controversial speech at the last event
In April, Wolf stirred controversy as she mercilessly mocked the Trump administration and journalists, and she's still not holding back tweeting 'The @whca are cowards' on Monday
For years a comedian has poked fun at political leaders and journalists alike at the Correspondents' dinner with prior star hosts including Conan O'Brien, Jimmy Kimmel and Seth Meyers.
Trump has noticeably skipped the event for the past two years in a row, dodging a stream of jabs thrown towards him, and it's not clear if he'll attend next year's dinner.
'I’m delighted that Ron will share his lively, deeply researched perspectives on American politics and history at the 2019 White House Correspondents’ Dinner,' WHCA President Olivier Knox announced on Monday.
'As we celebrate the importance of a free and independent news media to the health of the Republic, I look forward to hearing Ron place this unusual moment in the context of American history,' he added.
Chernow will be a notably change of pace as he's an acclaimed author who's written about wrote the Alexander Hamilton biography that the hit Broadway musical is based on - but he promises his act 'won't be dry'.
'The White House Correspondents’ Association has asked me to make the case for the First Amendment and I am happy to oblige,' Chernow said in a statement.
'Freedom of the press is always a timely subject and this seems like the perfect moment to go back to basics. My major worry these days is that we Americans will forget who we are as a people and historians should serve as our chief custodians in preserving that rich storehouse of memory. While I have never been mistaken for a stand-up comedian, I promise that my history lesson won’t be dry,' he added.
In her speech at this year's event, Wolf mercilessly mocked White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders saying she 'burns facts and then she uses that ash to create a perfect smoky eye'
Wolf roasted counselor to the president Kellyanne Conway by saying her last name was 'perfect' for her job
Donald Trump was noticeably not in attendance to hear Wolf's jokes in person. Critics say that she went too far with her jokes earlier this year, leading to a vastly different speaker choice for next year's event
One critic tweeted: 'Hey Michelle Wold didn't just kill her career, she killed the WHCA dinner entertainment too'
Critics say that Wolf took her monologue too far in April.
'Way to ruin it for everyone Michelle Wolf,' Mediaite editor Colby Hall wrote.
'Michelle Wolf didn't just kill her career, she killed the WHCA dinner entertainment too,' Resurgent writer Erick Erickson tweeted on Monday.
In her speech, Wolf she compared White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders to a ruthless figure from The Handmaid's Tale saying she 'burns facts and then she uses that ash to create a perfect smoky eye.'
Wolf also took shots at counselor to the president Kellyanne Conway.
'Man, she has the perfect name for what she does. Conway. It's like if my last name was tells-jokes-frizzy-hair-small-t*ts,' she said.
Despite the hail of criticism, Wolf said she had no regrets on her performance.
'I mean, I'm honestly – I wouldn't change a single word that I said. I'm very happy with what I said, and I'm glad I stuck to my guns,' Wolf said following the gig.

The White House Correspondents Association announced this week that...
It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
