«Breaking News» 'Hot Duck' is back in Central Park after weekend escape to the New Jersey side of the Hudson River

The magnificent Mandarin duck which has become a star attraction at Central Park is back in New York City on Tuesday after taking yet another weekend away, apparently in New Jersey.

Where the beautiful bird has been going when not hanging out in Central Park Lake has been a question on many New Yorkers' minds, ever since it first showed up last month.

Now video evidence has emerged that suggests the duck may be a commuter, spending the work week in the city and heading out to New Jersey every weekend to get away from the hustle and bustle of Manhattan.

But one thing the 'Hot Duck' (called such for its striking looks) can't escape is the paparazzi, which has captured the wild animal on video in both Bergen, New Jersey and on the Jersey side of the Hudson River, with the New York City skyline in the background.

Males of the Mandarin duck species sport a colorful plumage in purple, orange, yellow and rust tones, so naturally this one stands out considerably in a crowd, so it's no surprise that Cole Baylis was drawn to the stunning bird when he turned up on October 12 on the Jersey side of the Hudson, and again on November 25

It's no surprise then that Cole Baylis was drawn to the stunning bird when he turned up in October on the Jersey side of the Hudson.

'I've never seen one of those before,' Baylis can he heard saying from behind the camera in the video, which captured the living, breathing tourist attraction among a group of notably less flamboyant birds.

Baylis told the Gothamist he saw the duck, which has been nicknamed 'Mandarin Patinkin' as tribute to the actor by the same name of 'Princess Bride' fame, while commuting to New York City by ferry during the morning of October 12, and again on November 25.

'He was swimming with some other ducks right in front of the UBS building close to the Lincoln harbor ferry station,' Baylis said.

For those of you keeping track at home, October 12 was a Friday and November 25 was a Sunday, lending credibility to the theory that the city's new feathered friend is a weekend warrior, planning epic weekend adventures.

The duck, whose species is native to East Asia, was first spotted taking up residence at the iconic New York park on a sunny October day.

It was spotted by rare bird watcher David Barrett, who posted a video on Twitter via the handle @BirdCentralPark that went viral.

The tos and fros of this stunning member of the anatidae family (which includes ducks, geese and swans) are tracked closely on Twitter.

Another video has recently emerged of the duck swimming around with a pal at Woodcliff Lake in North Bergen, this time on October 19, which was also a Friday.

On this occasion, the bird was spotted by New Jersey resident Ashley Hernandez and captured on camera by Brandon Munoz.

'For weeks now I have been speculating that when the Mandarin Duck disappears from Central Park, he flies west, to the Hudson River or even farther,' Barrett told Gothamist. 'This video supports my idea.'

According to a local New Jersey Facebook group, the duck has also been to Edgewater, 'on a walkway by the Hudson River,' on October 23. This was a Tuesday, but it's possible the bird could have been on a long weekend, so the the weekend travel theory still holds up.

Following that jaunt, the duck returned to the 79th Street Boat Basin before making it way back to Central Park Pond by October 28, a Sunday.

It's unclear exactly how he arrived here in the first place, with some speculating at first that he had escaped from a zoo, but no nearby cities have reported a missing duck.

Others guessed he might have been abandoned by a family that kept him as a pet.

Yet more suggested he came from lands beyond the US financial capital, where laws bar people from owning a duck.

All the speculation has only helped fuel the duck's popularity.

On Tuesday, he roamed about beyond the lenses of photographers on the lake in a southeastern corner of Central Park a stone's throw from the Plaza hotel, snacking on a few breadcrumbs thrown by onlookers.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
