«Breaking News» Dutch Queen Maxima stuns in a scarlet cape as she attends an awards ceremony in Amsterdam

Queen Maxima of the Netherlands stunned in a red cape as she arrived at an awards ceremony in Amsterdam today.

Maxima, 47, kept the cold at bay with the scarlet number which she paired with brown suede stilettos.

The Dutch royal was attending the Erasmus Prize ceremony of which her husband, King Willem-Alexander, is a patron.

Keeping her blonde locks in a chignon, Maxima was able to show off her chunky statement earrings.

She coordinated her heels with a matching brown suede clutch bag, and kept the all eyes on her stylish earrings by keeping the rest of her jewellery to a minimum.

Maxima, who showed off her hazel eyes with a simple smoky eye and neutral lipstick, happily waved and smiled as she arrived at the Royal Palace for the event.

This year's Erasmus Prize, which had the theme 'The Power of Investigative Journalism', was awarded to American journalist and writer Barbara Ehrenreich.

She has written a number of books including Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in America, where she spoke about her efforts trying to survive from unskilled work, and Bait and Switch: The (Futile) Pursuit of the American Dream.

Writing on the Erasmus Prize website, the judges explained their decision by saying: 'Barbara Ehrenreich is commended for her courage in putting herself on the line in her journalistic work.

'By leading the life of people in precarious situations, she gives a voice to groups in society that would otherwise remain unheard, and she lets us see life as people on the underside of society live it.'

Barbara, 77, joked with her Twitter followers about the ceremony earlier today, saying: 'In Amsterdam to receive Erasmus Prize (google it) in the royal palace from the king of the Netherlands himself.

'You can still call me Barbara but I probably won’t be consorting with commoners much anymore.'

Maxima has had a busy few weeks, presenting this year's Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds award to conductor and composer Reinbert de Leeuw yesterday.

She wore a colourful blue frock featuring red, yellow and pink stripes with a ruffle hem.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
