«Breaking News» Victoria and David Beckham lead the stars celebrating New Year's Eve

She's endured quite a challenging year as she was faced with two attempted break-ins at her Cotswolds mansion, and was also plagued by split rumours from husband David Beckham.

But Victoria Beckham, 44, ensured she rang in 2019 with a bang as she took to Instagram on Monday to document her New Year's Eve preparations, looking as glamorous as ever in a sophisticated tuxedo dress.

Hours later, her husband David, 43, took to his Instagram with a sweet family shot, which saw him and Victoria wishing their followers a Happy New Year alongside their brood - Brooklyn, 19, Romeo, 16, Cruz, 13, and Harper, 7.

The style maven commanded attention as she accentuated her lean legs in a pair of sheer tights, and boosted her frame in sleek pointed heels.

Meanwhile, David proved to be ever the doting father as he took to his Instagram Stories to document the fireworks at midnight.

Also toasting to the new year was presenter Holly Willoughby, 37, who joined her husband Daniel Baldwin and three children; daughter Belle, seven, and sons Harry, nine, and Chester, four, for an intimate firework display.

The ITV star - who recently returned from Australia following her I'm A Celebrity stint, proved family comes first as she captioned the image: '2019... as long as you four are beside me ... we’ll be just fine...'.

Following in her footsteps was I'm A Celeb contestant Emily Atack, 29, who shared snaps of herself holding up a glass of fizz in delight following a successful year.

'However you’re spending tonight I hope you’re happy and healthy and hope you all get a big fat snog at midnight from someone fit. Happy New Year! 2019 let’s smash your back doors in!! All the love, friends', she added.

Celebrity royalty David and Victoria, who began dating in early 1997, share four children - Brooklyn, 19, Romeo, 16, Cruz, 13, and seven year-old Harper.

For the celebration, the former footballer and singer are said to have invited twenty of their closest friends and family to a showstopping bash, held at their Cotsworld estate, according to The Sun.

It appears that the pair, who were rocked by divorce rumours earlier this year, are keen on putting the speculation behind them, as a source revealed: 'David was keen to put on a united front, and show the world they’re happy after a tough few months.'

Ending their year on a high note, David and Victoria are said to be organising a lavish party to showcase just how strong they are.

In September, David and Victoria addressed the state of their 19-year marriage in an interview with Vogue, having been plagued by split rumours in recent months.

Cutting to the chase, Spice Girl-cum-fashion designer Victoria admitted persistent speculation regarding the state of their marriage comes with the territory.

'People have been making things up about our relationship for 20 years, so David and I are pretty used to ignoring the nonsense and just carrying on as normal. But these things have a wider effect on the people around us, and that’s unfair.'

Talking about brand Beckham, the brunette added: 'We both realise that we are stronger together than we are as individuals. Would either of us be in the position that we are in now had we not met and been together all those years ago? It’s all about the family unit.

'We are much stronger - the six of us - than we would be if we were individuals. We respect that family bond and that is key.'

Back in June, the Beckhams were suddenly forced to vehemently deny speculation that they were heading for a divorce.

It later emerged that during this turbulent time Victoria sat down with her four children to reassure them about the state of their parents' marriage.

At the time of the divorce rumours - which seemed to involve speculation about David's faithfulness to his wife - Jo Milloy, a spokesman for Victoria, told the Daily Mail the gossip was 'absolute nonsense'.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.

«Breaking News» Breakthrough as Australian scientists discover a cell that can ‘put melanoma tumours to sleep'

Scientists have made a breakthrough discovery that could open up revolutionary treatments for skin cancer.

Research has uncovered that special immune cells have the power to put melanoma tumours 'to sleep', stopping them from spreading.

The tissue-resident memory T-cells have been used to fight cancer in the past but researchers did not know how they worked - until now.

Research carried out by scientists at Melbourne's Peter Dohety Institute and Telethon Kids Institute was published in Nature journal on Tuesday.

They discovered that the T-cells could be used to stop the growth of skin cancers.

Paper lead author Simone Park said the T-cells 'hold the cancer in check'.

'What we found was that the cells are capable of inducing a state of dormancy of the tumour, stopping the cancer cells without killing them,' Ms Park told Daily Mail Australia.

'These particular cells are very good at controlling melanoma long term.'

She said scientists monitored both melanoma and T-cells using fluorescent markers.

FACTS AND FIGURES

- There are 14,000 new diagnoses of melanoma in Australia annually

- Almost 2000 individuals die from the skin cancer nationally each year

-  The five-year survival rate is between 90 to 99 per cent if melanoma is detected early

-  The rate drops to less than 50 per cent if not detected early

'We could watch in real time the T cells interacting with melanoma cells,' she said.

T-cells were removed from mice which had dormant melanomas, and once the cells were taken out then tumours then began to grow.

'We could identify melanoma cells that can't be seen with the naked eye,' Ms Park said.

'This mechanism hadn't been described before.'

Ms Park said she hoped the research breakthrough could lead to more improved treatments for melanoma.

'In the future, the broader effect could be how to better treat melanoma... and hopefully treat people much better than we are now,' she said.

In Australia, there are 14,000 new diagnoses of melanoma each year - and almost 2000 deaths from the skin cancer.

The nation has the second highest rate of melanoma in the world.

In Australia, there are 14,000 new diagnoses of melanoma each year - and almost 2000 deaths from the skin cancer

WHAT IS MELANOMA AND HOW CAN YOU PREVENT IT?

Melanoma is the most dangerous form of skin cancer. It happens after the DNA in skin cells is damaged (typically due to harmful UV rays) and then not repaired so it triggers mutations that can form malignant tumors.

The estimated number of diagnosis for skin cancer in Australia in 2018 is 14,320 which grew from the previous year were there were 13,941 cases and 1,839 deaths.

Approximately two in three Australians will be diagnosed with skin cancer by the time they are 70.

Causes

  • Sun exposure: UV and UVB rays from the sun and tanning beds are harmful to the skin

  • Moles: The more moles you have, the greater the risk for getting melanoma

  • Skin type: Fairer skin has a higher risk for getting melanoma

  • Hair color: Red heads are more at risk than others

  • Personal history: If you've had melanoma once, then you are more likely to get it again

  • Family history: If previous relatives have been diagnosed, then that increases your risk

Treatment

  • Removal of the melanoma:

This can be done by removing the entire section of the tumor or by the surgeon removing the skin layer by layer. When a surgeon removes it layer by layer, this helps them figure out exactly where the cancer stops so they don't have to remove more skin than is necessary.

  • Skin grafting:

The patient can decide to use a skin graft if the surgery has left behind discoloration or an indent.

  • Immunotherapy, radiation treatment or chemotherapy:

This is needed if the cancer reaches stage III or IV. That means that the cancerous cells have spread to the lymph nodes or other organs in the body.

Prevention

  • Use sunscreen and do not burn

  • Avoid tanning outside and in beds

  • Apply sunscreen 30 minutes before going outside

  • Keep newborns out of the sun

  • Examine your skin every month

  • See your physician every year for a skin exam

«Breaking News» Trump says American people and military are winners of 2018 and blasts Democrats as biggest losers

President Donald Trump says the American people and the military were the biggest winners of 2018 while Democrats were the year's biggest losers.

The president was asked to reflect on the year during a phone interview with Fox News correspondent Pete Hegseth on New Year's Eve as he waited to ring in 2019 at the White House.

Speaking from Times Square during Fox News' All-American New Year special, Hegseth said: 'New Year's Eve, for a lot of our viewers, is a time for reflection. You look back on 2018 and look forward to 2019. Who are your big winners and who are the big losers in the last year?

Trump replied: 'I think the winners are the American people. We've gotten them tax cuts and jobs. Jobs like they've never had before. We've taken care of the military and rebuilt large portions and very shortly all of our military which was depleted. I think that the big winners are the people of the country. That makes me very happy.'

He continued: 'The one that has lost, you know, I don't want to really say. You have certainly a lot of people that wanted to do things that it didn't work out.'

Likely referencing the 2020 election, Trump said: 'I think when you look at some of the candidates that are announcing right now, I think they'll end up being the losers. You have a lot of people. Thirty-two people could be with the Democrats. Let's see what happens.

'I'm really more interested in the winners. And the winners are the people of the United States.'

Hegseth went on to ask about Trump's 2019 resolutions and predictions, to which the president replied: 'I think we're going to have a great form of wealth. We've created a lot of wealth for our country. That's very important. That means jobs, it means prosperity, it means we can afford to do what we're doing with the military.

'We're working on tremendous trade deals where other countries have taken advantage of us so badly. I complained on all of the stuff. I'm producing better [deals] than I said during the campaign. I think we're going to have tremendous success with trade deals.

'I think we're going to have tremendously rebuilt military for strength and hopefully we'll never have to use our military. It will be so strong we'll never have to use it. That would be a good thing.'

Hours earlier the president wished America a happy new year in a Twitter video with a self-pitying reminder that he'll be ringing in 2019 at the White House instead of at Mar a Lago with his family as was previously planned. 'While I'm at the White House working you're out there partying tonight, but I don't blame you,' Trump said in the 11-second video. 'Enjoy yourselves, we're going to have a great year. Have a really, really happy new year'

«Breaking News» Towns and villages are offered up to £2.5million to become Britain's 'nuclear dustbin'

Town and villages are being offered millions of pounds as an incentive to become Britain’s ‘nuclear dustbin’.

Hundreds of tons of radioactive nuclear power station waste needs to be stored a kilometre – roughly 3,000ft – deep in the ground.

The facility will need to hold 750,000 cubic metres of waste – enough to fill three quarters of Wembley stadium – and will cost an estimated £8billion to build.

To provide an incentive to hosting the dumping ground, the selected area will be given between £1million and £2.5million a year for community projects, the Government said.

The sweetener comes after the last attempt to find a nuclear burial ground flopped in 2013 – following five years of consultations – when Cumbria county council rejected the plan.

It is expected the process to find a site will take 20 years, and it will take ten years to build. It will then need to remain safe for up to 200,000 years.

In the new scheme, rather than a council deciding, a final decision will rest on a local referendum.

Waste is currently stored at 30 sites, mostly at Sellafield in Cumbria. It includes around 112 tonnes – the world’s biggest stockpile – of plutonium, the most poisonous substance ever created.

In 2016 the House of Commons Office of Science and Technology warned that plutonium is so dangerous it can even ‘self-sustain a nuclear chain reaction under certain conditions’. Other radioactive materials include uranium.

A Government document on how it find a site said the dump would need 600 skilled staff and was ‘likely to have a positive effect on the local economy’ and ‘will provide jobs and benefits to the economy for more than 100 years’.

However, there is so much waste that Whitehall warns it may be necessary to split it between two sites.

Energy minister Richard Harrington said finding a site ‘is a responsible public service to future generations’.

He added: ‘The UK Government ... believes the safest option is to dispose of this higher activity radioactive waste in a geological disposal facility, where the waste is packaged and isolated in a series of vaults and tunnels deep underground. This will ensure that no harmful amount of radioactivity ever reaches the surface.’

Locations could be under the sea – although the surface access would be on land.

Neil Hyatt, professor of radioactive waste management at Sheffield University, said: ‘It’s good to see Government planning for a realistic time frame of 20 years to select a site, to enable confidence in the long-term safety of the project to develop.’

But Greenpeace’s Doug Parr said: ‘The whole rigmarole ministers are proposing simply enables nuclear enthusiasts to hijack the process and push their will on communities.’

Nuclear affairs author Fred Pearce said: ‘Round the world nobody wants this stuff. Not in my backyard.

‘They have tried the brick fields of Bedfordshire, under the Irish Sea, abandoned Teesside mines, beneath the Lake District National Park – almost anywhere you care to name.

‘Still nobody wants the neighbour from hell.’

«Breaking News» Delivery man, 22, beaten for parking his car in front of Hells Angels' headquarters

A delivery man was beaten by two men after he parked in front of the motorcycles at the Hell Angels' headquarters in Manhattan.

The 22-year-old was dropping off food to a nearby location around 2am on Monday morning when he stopped his car in front of the East Village clubhouse.

Authorities said that a man in his sixties approached the driver and told him he wasn't allowed to park in front of the motorcycles.

The 22-year-old ignored his demand and completed the delivery, according to the New York Post.

When the delivery man returned, he was approached by two men.

One man held the delivery man by the neck while the other man punched him in the face, law enforcement sources revealed.

The delivery man suffered minor facial injuries but did not require medical attention.

This is hardly the first time the Hells Angels' East Village clubhouse has made headlines.

David Martinez was allegedly shot in the stomach by Hells Angels 'prospect' member Anthony Iovenitti in front of the headquarters in December 2016.

Martinez, who was 25 at the time, had tried to move a traffic cone in front of the clubhouse so his friend's car could squeeze past a taxi in the road.

He reportedly riled up several Hells Angels members who left the clubhouse to confront him and told him to leave the cone alone.

Sources said Iovenitti threw a punch and then pulled out a gun to shoot Martinez.

Days later, the New York Police Department raided the headquarters and handed out summonses for any minor infractions they could find after the group failed to cooperate with police in the shooting investigation.

Iovenitti's case was dismissed last September after he died of an aneurysm while on a motorcycle trip.

The Hells Angels have occupied the East Village building since 1969, gaining a reputation for throwing rowdy parties and clashing with police.

In 1985, police raided the clubhouse, making 15 arrests on drug and other charges. The city used the case to try to seize the building in the early 1990s in a federal lawsuit, but a jury sided with the bikers.

The Hells Angels countered with their own litigation, accusing police of illegally searching the headquarters in 1999 and again in 2000.

The city agreed to settle the lawsuit by paying the club more than $800,000.
