Authorities have identified the three people found dead in northwestern Minnesota as a mother and her two young children.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension on Wednesday said 28-year-old Emma LaRoque fatally shot herself at her home in rural Ogema in Becker County.

Her children - identified by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office as four-year-old Frederick York and nine-year-old Shane Woods - were homicidal violence victims.

They did not elaborate on how the children died.

Their bodies were found Monday at their White Earth Village home off Highway 34.

LaRoque was identified as the daughter of tribal Public Safety Director Michael LaRoque.

The Becker County Sheriff's Department responded to 'an incident' at the property when they came across the three bodies. No arrests were made.

'Based on the preliminary investigation, it is believed there is no threat to the public,' the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension said in a statement.

Friends told Valley News Live 'nobody had a bad thing to say about her' and the deaths have 'the whole tribe feeling like they got sucker punched in the stomach.'

Neighbor Tabashish Anamiki Ogitchida, saw LaRoque less than two weeks ago and described her as 'a good mom' to Star Tribune.

'Everybody is in shock and awe,' community resident, Liz King, told DL Online. 'It's terrible that this family of three had to be gone that soon.'.

On Tuesday, the White Earth Nation said they would not focus on how the family died but their 'beautiful souls'.

'During this time we want to stay clear of re-traumatizing our community, therefore we need to focus on the facts, maintain caution and use safe messaging to minimize the ripple effect,' a spokesperson said before encouraging the community to do self-checks, and take time for self care.

The community was urged to take breaks, relax and reach out to one another.

'As adults we have a hard time making sense of this loss, at the same time we have to be mindful of how it's impacting out little ones,' the woman continued during her speech.

She added that Anishinaabe tribe members 'are people of the heart' so children should be spoken to about feelings of sadness but to avoid discussing the details of the way the community members died.

The Wednesday speech was led by White Earth Nation's Vice-Chairman Eugene 'Umsy' Tibbetts, who has taken over leadership since Tribal Chairman Terry Tibbetts, 60, lost his battle with cancer over the weekend.

He had led Minnesota's largest tribe since 2016 and his passing was a devastating blow to the community.

The four recent deaths prompted a six-hour healing circle at their community center on Tuesday as well as several others in the surrounding area.

Using medicines and songs, the tribe deals with grief by using eagle feathers to push away bad energy, cedar water to wipe participants clean, and smudging with sage.

'We use buffalo and bear, we smoke the pipe, boil up the cedar, and boil up various medicines given to the Anishinaabe people a long, long time ago,' Senior White Earth Reservation Cultural Coordinator Merlin Deegan told Grand Forks Herald about the monthly gathering that has taken place over four years.

'What we do is, we wash them off to deal with their grief, because our community right now really needs something to grasp to move forward in a positive way. They do feel better, but it's not a fix-all.'

A video from ABC 5 let media in on one of the ceremonies for the first time ever.

The community was also working with behavioral health experts and offered mental health counseling at the ceremonies.

'We are experiencing extreme trauma and crisis, so we just want to be supportive to those who are immediately impacted,' White Earth Mental Health Crisis Program coordinator, Verna Mikkelson, told DL Online. '(It's) more than an individual can handle on a normal level.'

The National Suicide Prevention Hotline offers advice at 800-273-TALK (8255).

Her children...

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
