«Breaking News» Made In Chelsea star Olivia Bentley praises the 'supportive' show

Made In Chelsea's Olivia Bentley has spoken out in support of the programme after other TV stars hit out at the after-care they received from reality shows.

The 23-year-old's defence comes after Love Island contestant Mike Thalassitis was found dead aged 26 on Saturday morning, causing many reality stars to suggest that they need receive more support from the show's teams.

Olivia said however that there is always someone available to speak to at Made In Chelsea if the cast members feel like they have a problem, which contrasts against reports from people who have appeared other series such as Love Island.

Olivia appeared on Heart Breakfast on Monday morning, where she suggested that her own personal struggles are centred around social media trolls rather than the lack of support from TV producers.

Discussing her link with reality TV, she said: 'I think there’s always going to be down sides to it. I personally, from Made in Chelsea, they’ve always got someone there for you to talk to. But I think it’s also social media.

'There are so many different things that can cause this kind of thing, like I think it’s very awful and very sad but yeah, it can be very stressful.'

Discussing what she believes is the hardest part about being in the spot light, Olivia said: 'I think social media has a big part to play in a lot of stuff and I think the trolls are slightly out of control sometimes.'

However Olivia added that she refuses to engage with trolls because she believes it only encourages them and makes it worse.

She said: 'I personally don’t say anything, I don’t get involved with it. I do get them, like people say a lot of stuff but I don’t rise to it because I think it just makes it worse. I think the best thing is to just ignore it.'

Olivia described the team at Made In Chelsea as a sort of 'family' who are always there if you need support outside the show, adding that she thinks most shows have that type of support.

She said: 'Yeah there’s always people that you can [talk to]. I mean I’ve had ups and downs and I’ve always found that there’s someone there. It’s like a peculiar sort of family – which is amazing.

'Obviously speaking only from Made In Chelsea because that’s all I know but they are very hands on when it comes to anything like that. I’ve never felt alone or in a situation where I’ve had no one to turn to.'

Since the news of Mike's passing, several reality stars including series two contestant Malin Anderson have hit out at Love Island for their apparent lack of support from the show.

In a series of tweets, Malin said she was only sent flowers by the ITV2 team when her four-week-old daughter Consy passed away in January.

She said: 'WAKE UP @LoveIsland !!!! I got flowers from the producers when my daughter died. No f**king phone call. No support, or help. Enough is enough.

'Nothing when my mum died. Nothing when Sophie died. Change needs to happen.'

'If I didn't have a strong head on me that my mum passed down to me, I wouldn't have been able to cope with this all. But not everyone is like this.'

'PLEASE IF YOU FEEL ALONE, OR SAD, OR STUCK REACH OUT TO SOMEBODY!'

Dom Lever, who appeared in the Love Island villa alongside Mike, joined Malin's call for change.

He said: 'I'm shocked at the news!! me and @MikeThalassitis may not have seen eye to eye but he was a top guy.

Speaking out: In a series of tweets, season two 2016 star Malin, 26, admitted she was only sent flowers by the ITV2 team when her four-week-old daughter Consy passed away in January

'You get a psychological evaluation before and after you go on the show but hands down once you are done on the show you don't get any support unless you're number one.'

His wife Jess Shears, who also starred on the show, added: 'In complete shock, was lucky enough to get to know Mike, he was the loveliest guy. My heart breaks for his family.

'Shows offer you 'support' but realistically it's only while you are in their care. Minute you get home & are no longer making them money it's out of sight out of mind.

The star continued: 'If I didn't have a strong head on me that my mum passed down to me, I wouldn't have been able to cope with this all. But not everyone is like this'

'There should be ongoing support & also financial advice. Life after these shows isn't all it's cracked up to be.'

Big Brother star Mark Byron, who has not appeared on Love Island, also said the 'amount of aftercare should reflect the amount of time after the shows air that the people remain in the spotlight.'

The news of Mike's death comes after fellow season two Love Island star Sophie Gradon, 32, was found dead at her parents house in Medburn, Ponteland in June.

Her co-star Zara Holland later revealed she was on antidepressants two years after appearing on the show - and claimed contestants didn't receive enough aftercare.

Zara, 22, told The Sun she 'changed as a person' when her Miss GB title was stripped off of her after she had sex on the show and is still 'haunted' by the repercussions.

She said: 'I changed as a person, I didn't want to go out or socialise, I came out of Love Island and they didn't contact me.

'Love Island called me for the first time in two years on Thursday [after the death of Sophie] to ask if I was OK, funny they call me now when something terrible has happened.

'People applying need to know how serious things can be, they see a claim to fame, they don't see that in ten years' time, when you're married with babies, you'll still be haunted for the rest of your life.'

A spokesperson for Love Island said at the time: 'All of our islanders are offered psychological support before, during and after their time in the villa. We take our duty of care very seriously and this is always our top priority.'

In a statement released to MailOnline ITV bosses claimed that care for Islanders is 'taken very seriously and is a continuous process' after they also paid tribute to Mike.

The statement read: 'Care for our Islanders is a process the show takes very seriously and is a continuous process for all those taking part in the show.

'We ensure that all of our Contributors are able to access psychological support before, during and after appearing on the show. The programme will always provide ongoing support when needed and where appropriate.

'We also discuss at length with all of our Islanders, before and after the show, how their lives might change and they have access to support and advice to help with this.'

They also paid their condolences to Mike, sharing: 'Everyone at ITV2 and Love Island are shocked and saddened by the terrible news about Mike. Our thoughts and condolences are with his family and friends.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
