The co-chairman of a New York City law firm has been placed on leave after he was among those charged in a scheme to help wealthy American cheat their children's way into college.
The law firm Willkie Farr & Gallagher said on Wednesday that Gordon Caplan had been put on a leave of absence following his charges.
Caplan, who lives in tony Greenwich, Connecticut and himself went to Cornell, is accused of paying $75,000 to get a test supervisor to correct the answers on his daughter's ACT exam after she took it.

'As widely reported, one of our partners, Gordon Caplan, was among the persons charged in the college admissions matter,' the firm said in a statement.
'This is a personal matter and does not involve Willkie or any of its clients. In light of the seriousness of the matter, Mr Caplan has been placed on a leave of absence from the Firm and will have no further Firm management responsibilities.'
Caplan, a private equity attorney, was named 'Dealmaker of the Year' by American Lawyer magazine last year.
According to court documents, Caplan was apprehensive and said on a phone call with mastermind Rick Singer that it felt 'pretty weird'.
In another conversation, he said: 'If somebody catches this, what happens?'
He later said he worried his daughter would be 'finished' if she was found out.
'I'm not worried about the moral issue here. I'm worried about the, if she's caught doing that, you know, she's finished,' Caplan said in one call.
Later, once his daughter had been granted extra time, he expressed his apprehension again.

In phone calls with the mastermind of the scheme, William 'Rick' Singer, Caplan was adamant that his daughter take the test herself and repeatedly asked about the legality of it

'Keep in mind I am a lawyer. So I'm sort of rules oriented. Doing this with you, no way - she's taking the test. It's her taking the test, right? There's no way... any trouble comes out of this, nothing like that?' he asked.
He was adamant that his daughter take the test herself and repeatedly asked questions the legality of the process. His wife, he said in one call, had become uncomfortable with it.
Singer assured him that his daughter would sit the test and that his company would perform 'the magic on the back end' of it.
Caplan ended up paying $75,000 in November or December 2018 to have Singer arrange a proctor who corrected her answers after she took the test, according to the affidavit.
Federal authorities arrested dozens of people on Tuesday as part of the $25 million scheme to help wealthy Americans, including actresses Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin and some CEOs, cheat their children's way into elite universities, such as Yale and Stanford.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
