«Breaking News» Dad, 39, swept to his death by 'sneaker wave' as he celebrated his birthday on California vacation

A dad-of-three was swept to his death by a 'sneaker wave' as he celebrated his birthday on vacation in California with his family last Friday.

Andrew 'Drew' Machi, 39, was fishing on a beach near Trinidad, California when a large wave 'grabbed him and threw him in the ocean'.

His desperate wife Brandie is said to have tried to save her husband but 'the water was throwing her back into the rocks', according to a GoFundMe set up to help with funeral costs.

It is understood the family, from Ione, had been enjoying a day at the beach when tragedy struck.

Drew, who is said to have worked for PG&E as a lineman, is thought to have hit his head on some rocks which knocked him out.

A helicopter was sent to the scene and tragic Machi's body was found by a coast guard swimmer before being flown to Mad River Hospital, The SF Gate reports.

Brandie's older sister, Jamie Tracey, wrote on their fundraising page: ' On Friday Brandie, Drew and the kids were on vacation at the ocean in Eureka.

'It was his birthday. Drew was fishing on the rocks and a wave grabbed him and threw him in the ocean. Brandie jumped in and tried to save him but he was about 15 feet out and the water was throwing her back into the rocks.

'She ran for help but he died. She is beside herself. She was alone with the kids for hours before any family arrived and now she's back but won't go home without him.'

'His body will be brought back on Monday. Coroner said he believes he hit his head on rocks and was knocked out. This whole tragedy has her a mess. Anyway the fam is rushing to be there.'

A day after the tragedy a woman who was on a beach in Oregon ended up being seriously injured after a large log she was sitting on was struck by another 'sneaker wave,' officials said.

The woman was 'crushed' after the large driftwood log was struck by the sudden wave on Manzanita Beach according to Nehalem Bay Fire & Rescue.

The woman, named as Heathyr Croasmun, 44, suffered 13 broken ribs and a fractured tailbone, according to The Tillamook Headlight Herald.

Researchers are not sure why or how sneaker waves form, but it's generally thought that they develop as many waves travelling at the same speed come together, overlapping and combining to create a wave that crests taller and travels much farther ashore than normal.

The waves can sweep up people close to the water's edge in an instant, and can carry large debris - like the massive logs that line the coast - over top of beachgoers.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
