«Breaking News» Apple updates the iMac: faster processors and graphics built into 4K and 5K Retina HD displays

Apple has given the iMac its first facelift since 2017 and a major update to its processing speed, graphics performance and display resolution.


The new iMac features long-awaited updates like Retina HD display and more powerful processors. 


The 21.5-inch iMac will be 60 per cent faster and prices starts at $1,299 (£1,249). 


The 27-inch model starts at $1,799 (£1,749) and will operate 2.4 times faster, say Apple. 


Graphics performance by the new desktops will also be up to 80 per cent faster on the 21.5-inch and 50 per cent faster on the 27-inch version.

Tom Boger, Apple's senior director of Mac Product Marketing said: 'Customers are going to love the huge boost in iMac performance. 


With up to 8-core processors and powerful Vega graphics, the iMac lineup is stronger than ever'. 


'With its stunning Retina display, amazing design, twice the performance, and macOS Mojave that our customers love, iMac is by far the best desktop in the world.' 

The update promises faster performances across all tasks from writing a note to using video editing software like Adobe Premiere Pro, to playing games and composing music.  


Those who have picture and footage heavy work will benefit in particular, including professional designers and editors.  


Radeon Pro Vega graphics will give the 21.5-inch iMac up to 80 per cent faster graphics performance and a 50 per cent faster on the 27-inch version.

'All these pixels result in text that looks like a printed page, sharper photos with more detail, and the ability to edit 4K video at full resolution', said Apple. 


The new iMacs will come with the the latest macOS Mojave operating system that features a Dark Mode which blackens out the background, helping users to 'focus' on  specific content.

Other features of Mojave include Stacks, which organises the user desktop by automatically stacking files into groups.    


All versions of the new iMac can now available with prices for the 21.5-inch iMac Retina 4K display starting at $1,299 (£1,249) and that for the 27-inch model with Retina 5K display at $1,799 (£1,749).


The old non-Retina display iMac with 2.3GHz Dual-Core Processor with Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz continues to be available for $1,099 (£1,049).

 Apple also revealed a new range of tablets in a surprise announcement this week.


It launch includes the first new iPad mini in nearly four years, complete with the Apple Pencil stylus.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
