«Breaking News» Alesha MacPhail's teenager killer finally ADMITS to rape and murder

The 'evil' 16-year-old boy who abducted, raped and murdered six-year-old Alesha MacPhail has finally admitted his crimes eight months later, it emerged today.

Alesha's body was found in woods on the Isle of Bute, hours after she was reported missing from the house her father shared with his parents and partner on the island.

Aaron Campbell was convicted at Glasgow High Court on February 21 when a jury found him guilty unanimously after a nine-day trial over her death on July 2 last year.

He had denied the murder, but his defence lawyer Brian McConnachie QC revealed at a sentencing hearing today that he has now admitted it in a social work report.

Alesha's mother Georgina Lochrane, 23, and father Robert MacPhail, 26, who previously called Campbell a 'f***ing scumbag', arrived separately at court today.

Meanwhile it also emerged that Campbell received more than £14,000 in legal aid - more than 13 times the amount of £1,300 that prosecutors spent on the case.

Campbell could not be identified during the trial due to his age but following his conviction judge Lord Matthews lifted a ban on revealing his identity.

The teenager took Alesha from the bed where she was sleeping and inflicted horrific injuries before dumping her body in woodland.

Alesha had 117 separate injuries and a pathologist's post-mortem examination indicated she had died from 'significant and forceful pressure to her neck and face'.

The court heard that Alesha was days into her summer holiday with father Robert MacPhail, 26, and grandparents Angela King and Calum MacPhail when she was snatched by Campbell, who tried to blame her father's girlfriend for the crime.

Revealed: Killer Aaron Campbell received £14,000 in legal aid

The teenage killer of six-year-old Alesha MacPhail received more than £14,000 in legal aid, it has emerged.

Aaron Campbell's legal team spent £14,693 on defending him, a Freedom of Information request from the Crown Office revealed today.

This was more than 13 times the amount that lawyers filed against Campbell for his sadistic crimes.

The Crown and Prosecution Service spent £1,299.69 on prosecuting him.

Conservative MSP Liam Kerr said: 'People will see these comparative spends and wonder why vile criminals can access such significant amounts of money. Many victims feel they would never receive that level of support from the state.

'It also underlines the callous nature of an individual who happily took money from the taxpayer despite knowing his guilt of this abhorrent crime.'

A Legal Aid Scotland spokesman said: 'Legal aid is paid directly to lawyers to represent people accused of serious crimes, including those viewed as being of an abhorrent nature, to help ensure a jury can reach an appropriate verdict in a timely manner.'

Alesha's mother Georgina Lochrane, 23, previously said her 'world had been ripped away' by the killer, whose crimes shocked an idyllic island community.

Her father Robert MacPhail, 26, shouted 'f***ing scumbag' as Campbell was led away to the cells in handcuffs last month, while other relatives broke down in tears.

Alesha had been three days into her planned three-week holiday at the time when she fell asleep watching Peppa Pig on July 1.

A nine-day trial at Glasgow's High Court heard how the boy went to Alesha's home looking to get cannabis from her drug-dealing father.

He broke into the three-bedroom flat and took the little girl from her bed, carrying her along a beach to woodland in the grounds of an abandoned hotel.

There, he raped and smothered her – inflicting the 'catastrophic' injuries. The next morning her grandfather Calum woke at 6am to find she was gone.

His partner Angela King posted on Facebook: 'Alesha has gone missing from our house please help look for her.'

Alesha's naked body was found face down in the woods at 8.54am by a member of the public.

Miss Lochrane – who lives 50 miles away near Glasgow – learned of her daughter's abduction and death from Miss King's frantic Facebook posts publicising her granddaughter's disappearance.

During his trial, the killer told a 'pack of lies' as he blamed the crimes on Toni McLachlan, the girlfriend of Alesha's father.

Campbell, a heavy drinker who regularly smoked cannabis, said he and Miss McLachlan had been 'meeting up, having sex, smoking joints' for months – a claim she denied.

He alleged they had sex in a garage hours before Alesha was murdered and claimed Miss McLachlan had used DNA from the condom he had worn to frame him.

The court heard Miss McLachlan slept through two phone calls from the teenager at 2am the night Alesha was taken.

She then texted him upon finding out Alesha was missing, and he replied: 'Oh damn am sure she's not went too far.'

Prosecutor Iain McSporran QC previously said he hoped the guilty verdict would remove any doubt that Miss McLachlan could have been involved in the girl's death.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
