Sarah Hyland has been skinny shamed by online trolls after uploading a photo of her in which she revealed she was wearing two pairs of Spanx underneath a tight dress.
The Modern Family posted a photo to Instagram on Tuesday, February 26 that showed her posing at the Vanity Fair Oscars party on Sunday evening.
In the caption of the photo, the 28-year-old actor revealed that she was wearing two pairs of Spanx, as she wrote: '#funfact I'm wearing TWO pairs of Spanx. Why diet? When you can just hide it!'

Since the star posted the photo, the post has become inundated with comments from people concerned about the message in the caption.
After noticing the negative comments on the post, the actor took to Twitter to set things straight and address the reason she wore the Spanx in the first place.
She replied to a tweet from a follower that read: 'If you're trying to hide the bump from your transplant, forget it. I've been trying for years!! Stay healthy. #kidneystrong #transplantssavelives.'
Replying to the tweet, Sarah said: 'Someone gets it!!'
Hyland also responded to a now-deleted tweet. 'When you have two kidney transplants and are on steroids for life get back to me,' she wrote in response.
However, this didn't stop comments from followers flooding in on her Instagram post.
One follower commented on the post, saying: 'Stop. Stop doing dumb stuff like constraining your body uncomfortably to fulfill some image. We like your talent, not your waistline.'
Another said: 'This is an unfollow moment for me. I've been a fan for a long time and watched you speak against body shaming because of your small body... and to post that you are wearing 2 pair of Spanx instead of dieting is really a disturbing message.
'You just posted bathing suit pics not too long ago... what are you trying to correct with diet or Spanx?? Irresponsible message to put out there..very sad.'
A third follower wrote: 'I don't think this was your intention but the fact that you are already so skinny and think you need to wear 2 pairs of Spanx makes me feel so awful about my own body.
'You are perfect and if even YOU aren't good enough then what chance do I ever have,' they added.
In the photos accompanied by the caption that has caused controversy among her followers, Sarah can be seen looking youthful and radiant as she poses in a hot pink one shoulder gown.

The figure hugging dress perfectly shows off her slender physique.
Her makeup, which featured a soft brown smokey eye and a light-pink lip, perfectly complimented the look.
Despite some comments branding her irresponsible for her caption, many of the actor's followers showed support for the star.

One user wrote: 'We are all entitled to have insecurities about our looks. Whether you think Sarah is 'being ridiculous' or 'feeding into diet culture' it's her body and she can feel about it as she likes.
'She has openly spoke about how her surgeries have caused scarring and other body modifications that make her uncomfortable.
'Her intention wasn't to shame anyone bigger, but to let you know on a relatable level that people big and small wear Spanx. And she decided that instead of hiding it and letting you think she was perfect, that she was going to call herself out,' they added.
Another fan commented, saying: 'All of the comments of people who don't understand that Spanx aren't for making you 'skinny', they're meant to give you 'clean lines'.
'It's shape wear, not a corset. She was joking about the diet thing. I think it's refreshing that she's honest that no matter what your size, in order to look 'red carpet ready', you're probably wearing shape wear,' they added.
According to an interview with Self Magazine, the star has had about 16 surgeries to help treat her condition.
The actor first received a kidney from her father in 2012 to cure a condition called kidney dysplasia, a condition that results when the organs do not develop properly.
Toward the end of 2016 the kidney started to fail, and she received a second transplant from her brother Ian in September 2017.
On Valentine's Day of 2017, she went on dialysis, causing her weight to plummet.
And not only did the process affect her physical health, Sarah added that the physical ailments had a huge effect on her mental health too, and she even contemplated suicide.

However, despite her health difficulties, Sarah admitted that she is doing well.
'I'm stable. I'm thriving. I'm super happy with life,' she said in the interview.
And the 28-year-old isn't afraid to share her scars with her followers.
She has shared a number of photos to social media that show her scars, including a bikini selfie she snapped in October 2018 that shows a scar on her lower stomach.
The star recently shared a few snaps with boyfriend Wells Adams as the pair enjoyed the snow in Lake Tahoe.
The pair have been dating since roughly November 2017.
Sarah recently gushed about Wells, who rose to fame after appearing on the Bachelorette and Bachelor in Paradise.
She shared several photos of the pair on Valentine's Day to Instagram with a caption that read: 'With you I feel like I'm on top of the world & I'll always catch you if you fall... no matter how high we climb.
'I love you to Pluto & back @wellsadams. I am so grateful and appreciative of everything you do for me.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
