«Breaking News» Nicholas Hoult stars as The Lord Of The Rings author J.R.R. Tolkien in trailer for biopic Tolkien

He was the literary mastermind behind fantasy masterpieces The Lord Of The Rings and The Hobbit.


And the life of J.R.R. Tolkien is set to be depicted in the new biopic Tolkien, with Nicholas Hoult taking on the role of the famed author.


The first trailer was released on Tuesday, and opens with Lily Collins as Tolkien's future wife Edith Bratt narrating over a scene of the author as a child, as she asks him: 'Tell me a story.'

Scenes show Tolkien grow from boy to man, as he can be heard saying: 'It’s a story about journeys, the journeys we take to prove ourselves.'

Reflecting his work, an intense scene sees an man who looks like a Nazgûl, from his hit fantasy trilogy, riding to fight another man dressed in white on horseback. 


In character, the actor, 29, adds: 'It’s about adventures, it’s about potent magic, magic beyond what anyone else has ever felt before.

'It’s about what it means to love, and be loved. It’s about courage, it’s about fellowship.'


As he says this, Nicholas's Tolkien is seen spending time with Lily's Edith in a forest, before cutting to him sat in a trench looking up at the sky, as bombs fly overhead.


The intense scenes of war shows off some incredible visual effects, as the fire in the residual blast of a bomb turns into an image of Tolkien's fiery demon creature from his novels, the Balrog.

It shows Tolkien serving in the First World War, and juxtaposes scenes of him running around his school halls as a young boy.


Ending in a truly epic style, the trailer sees a hooded man face off against the Balrog on the war-torn battlefield.


Tolkien is set to be released in cinemas across the UK on May 3, before screening in the USA from May 10.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
