The autopsy results on a beloved Los Angeles television news anchor who died in a motel have revealed that he was killed by a methamphetamine overdose.

Chris Burrous, 43, died on December 27 after being found unresponsive in the Days Inn in Glendale.

The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner said on Friday that Burrous died from methamphetamine toxicity. Other contributing factors included hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

The manner of death was certified as an accident.

In the early afternoon two days after Christmas, paramedics were called to the $93-a-night motel by another man who said he was with the father-of-one.

The man, who has not been identified, told 911 that Burrous had 'possibly overdosed.'

Burrous was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2.06pm.

Burrous was a well-known anchor who co-anchored the KTLA-TV morning newscast on weekends.

The veteran newsman had previously worked at PIX 11 in New York City and KGET-TV in California.

At his funeral last month, Burrous' nine-year-old daughter Isabella was among those who spoke.

'In my heart, he’s still there and alive and I hope he is for all of you, too,' she said.

Burrous' wife Mai Do said she was touched by the turn-out.

'I could have never fathomed the enormity of your affection for him.

'So thank you all for helping to keep Chris alive, in your hearts and in your memories,' she said.

In her eulogy, his widow said he was the same person at home as he was on television.

'On-air or off, out and about in a fire line, or cutting in at the buffet line, he was really exactly that silly, whip-smart, funny.

'The most thoughtful person I ever met,' she said.

When news of his death emerged, colleagues set up a GoFundMe page to help his widow and their daughter.

It has since raised more than $80,000 for the pair.

Among the donations was a $5,000 gift from The Big Bang Theory star Kunal Nayyar.

Mai, who had been married to Burrous since 2009, was overwhelmed by the fundraising attempt.

'Words can never fully convey how profoundly grateful I am for the tremendous show of kindness and astounding generosity so many of you have shown to Isabella and me in the wake of Chris’ sudden passing.

'I am overwhelmed in the knowledge that your love and admiration for Chris could somehow also extend to his family in our time of darkness.

'Even as we struggle with our own heartbreak, we find comfort in the knowledge that we are not alone.

'We thank you so much,' she said in an update on the page.

On average, 192 people die of drug overdoses every day in the U.S., according to the most recent available data.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
