«Breaking News» A golden statue of Kevin Hart holding the rainbow flag pops up near venue of the 2019 Oscars i

A statue of Kevin Hart holding a rainbow flag has been placed near the Dolby Theater in reference to the scandal which led to him stepping down as host of the 2019 Oscars.

The golden replica of the comedian and actor shows him holding the gay pride flag and contains the caption: 'Hollow Apology.'

The figurine is supposed to mimic the Oscar statuette and is entitled 'Hollow Apology.' It was placed there Los Angeles based street artist Plastic Jesus.

Hart stepped down from the presenting gig in December amid a slew of backlash over years-old homophobic tweets that recently surfaced.

'I have made the choice to step down from hosting this year's Oscar's....this is because I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many amazing talented artists,' the comedian tweeted just two days after being named host.

'I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past.'

His apology, however, came too little too late after he revealed earlier in an Instagram video that the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences had given him an ultimatum: apologize for the comments or they would seek a new host.

Hart responded to the ultimatum in the video asserting that he chose to 'pass on the apology' because he had 'addressed this several times'.

Less than two hours later the 39-year-old changed his tune, issuing an apology to the LGBTQ community along with his resignation as Oscars host.

His resignation came after tweets dated from 2009 to 2011 surfaced in which the comedian spewed blatant anti-gay rhetoric.

In 2011, he wrote in a since-deleted tweet: 'Yo if my son comes home & try's 2 play with my daughters doll house I'm going 2 break it over his head & say n my voice ''stop that's gay.''

The comedian has since deleted the tweets, but that wasn't before screen captures began circulating online, gaining widespread criticism.

Earlier in the day, Hart responded to criticism in a way that further inflamed backlash after he was named host of the upcoming Academy Awards.

He wrote on Instagram that critics should 'stop being negative'. In an accompanying video, a shirtless Hart lounging in bed warily said he wasn't going to 'let the craziness frustrate me.'

'I'm almost 40 years old. If you don't believe that people change, grow, evolve? I don't know what to tell you,' said Hart, who added, in all-caps: 'I love everybody.'

His refusal to admit fault and apologize for the tweets sparked public outcry for the removal of his hosting gig.

Hart's attitudes about homosexuality were also a well-known part of his stand-up act.

In the 2010 special Seriously Funny, he said 'one of my biggest fears is my son growing up and being gay.'

'Keep in mind, I'm not homophobic, I have nothing against gay people, do what you want to do, but me, being a heterosexual male, if I can prevent my son from being gay, I will,' Hart said in the routine.

Details have been scant about the first Academy Awards ceremony in 30 years to go ahead without a host, bringing a curiosity factor to the last and biggest awards show of the season.

A publicist for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences told Fox News earlier this month that the show would go on without a central host for only the second time in its history.

Instead, presenting duties at the 91st Academy Awards show will be shared among 13 stars including Tina Fey, Whoopi Goldberg, Brie Larson, Daniel Craig and Jennifer Lopez.

This year's ceremony will be the first since the 61st Academy Awards show to air without a main presenter.

In 1989, the last time there was no host, the telecast opened with an 11-minute song and dance number featuring Rob Lowe and an actress dressed as Snow White that was widely derided.

Under pressure to deliver a compelling show for viewers after last year's TV audience hit an all-time low, producers have made the most of the best original song contenders.

Lady Gaga and actor-director Bradley Cooper will perform a live duet of her hit song "Shallow" from their best picture contender "A Star is Born," while Jennifer Hudson has been tapped to sing "Fight" from documentary "RBG."

Bette Midler will do the honors for the "Mary Poppins Returns" song "The Place Where Lost Things Go" and country duo Gillian Welch and David Rawlings will perform ""When a Cowboy Trades His Spurs for Wings."

"That is one of the places where the star wattage can make a difference," said Alison Willmore, critic and culture writer at BuzzFeed News.

"Lady Gaga is a music superstar and I would imagine her hard core fans will be tuning in for her," Willmore added.

Organizers have not said whether rapper Kendrick Lamar will perform his Oscar-nominated song "All the Stars" from superhero movie "Black Panther."

Oscar producers told the New York Times that Serena Williams would be one of eight people from outside the world of entertainment who will appear to talk about what the best picture nominees mean to them.

Sunday's show is also expected to dispense with the segments between award handouts that in recent years have focused on pizza deliveries or surprising people on bus tours.

"I'm not going to miss a lot of those little bits. That often feels like the part that makes the ceremony long, so maybe without a host it won't feel like it's dragging," said Willmore.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
