«Breaking News» Dancing On Ice: Melody Thornton is ELIMINATED as the judges unanimously vote to save Saara Alto

Melody Thornton is the eighth contestant to be booted from Dancing On Ice.

The Pussycat Dolls singer, 34, was sent home after she faced the dreaded skate-off on Sunday and lost out when the judges unanimously voted to save former 'X Factor' finalist Saara Alto instead.

Melody told host Holly Willoughby that her father 'would be very proud,' after she missed out on a place in next week's semi-final of the ITV ice skating competition.

When asked by Holly if she'd enjoyed her time on the show, Melody said: 'Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely.

'I know my father would be very proud of me, because he is the best athlete in the world, and that's all he wanted for me.'

And the singer's professional skating partner Alexander Demetriou was impressed with how far the star had come on the show, saying she 'pushed herself' to her limits despite suffering setbacks, including a 'nasty fall' a few weeks ago.

Speaking after their exit, he said: 'I couldn't have asked for a better partner for my first year. Every single week she wants to improve.

'She took a really really nasty fall two weeks ago and it did knock her confidence, but she still pushed herself. She still wanted to show it.'

The Pussycat Dolls singer, who faced the skate-off last week, returned on Sunday with her pro skater Alexander Demetriou to perform their routine to Walk Like An Egyptian by The Bangles.

Clad in a Cleopatra-inspired costume, the When I Grow Up hitmaker pulled out all the stops with a frog lift, stag jump and neck spin.

Melody finished in third place overall from the judges scores, after having scored 35.5 for her main routine, as well as picking up an extra three points in the skate battle - in which every couple took to the ice at the same time, in a battle to win extra points.

Matching James Jordan's impressive score, Melody gushed to hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby: 'My confidence gets knocked every week but with that score I think we can do this.'

However, the audience chose to send first place Wes Nelson, second place James Jordan, and fourth place Brian McFadden straight through to the semi-finals, leaving Melody and Saara - who placed last in the judges scoring - to take on the skate-off.

All four judges - Christopher Dean, Jayne Torvill, Ashley Banjo, and Jason Gardiner - ultimately thought Saara had a more 'polished' skate-off performance, and so chose to save her from elimination.

Melody told ...

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
