Bemused Britons hoping for a little respite from the wintry onslaught were left baffled this morning - when the BBC played Friday's weather forecast.
Instead of the latest information which heralds the arrival of less severe snowstorms, many were greeted with yesterday's forecast predicting fierce downpours and travel chaos.
The apparent blunder was picked up online, with weather-watchers questioning whether the BBC had 'invented a time machine'.
Bemused viewers took to Twitter this morning (above and below) to question the apparent BBC blunder - which coincidentally falls on Groundhog Day
As they were warned of snow and ice chaos in locations including the south west of England - which saw a coating of up to 14 cm of snow force motorists to abandon their cars and seek shelter.
But others suggested the broadcaster had fooled us all with an elaborate prank due to it being February 2 - Groundhog Day. With the Met Office also getting in on the gag, by sharing the same weather forecast ten times.
Confused viewers took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the intriguing broadcast, with one exclaiming 'err... it's Saturday?'
Another, Lucy Griffiths, said: 'I don't know if you were telling us about the wrong weather or were just playing Friday's weather on Saturday.
'But you were telling us about treacherous conditions on Friday and sunshine on Saturday.'
While Mike Williams tweeted: 'Thanks for letting us know what the weather forecast was yesterday on your news bulletin just before 6am.
'Then a summary about today saying it's going to be cold.'
James Patrick also noted the lateness of the broadcast, saying: 'Think your 6am Saturday weather report was 24 hours late. It talked about Friday's weather?'
And Richard Applegate joked that it made him feel like it was a week day, saying: 'I really don't need the Friday weather forecast first thing on a Saturday morning.
'Feel like I need to go to work now. Thanks BBC.'
The snow storm collapsed a tree in the middle of the road in Hampshire last night. Residents abandoned their cars and walked home in the freezing conditions instead
Junction 7 (pictured) near Basingstoke was shut yesterday after three lorries skidded out of control, blocking off the road in both directions
A road in the Yorkshire Dales was blocked yesterday after a council lorry overturned between Marske and Low Fremington
A 4x4 Range Rover, pictured today, slid off the road in the icy conditions on Black Down in Dorset near Hardy's Monument
Snow is seen covering the area around the Clifton Suspension Bridge and Avon Gorge in Bristol today
Some did pick up on it being Groundhog Day - when events are said to repeat themselves - with Valerie Staker saying: 'I know today is Groundhog Day, but I'm confused as to why this morning's forecast is for Friday's weather.'
And David Baker said: 'Has my bed turned into some kind of Groundhog Day time machine or was my yesterday all just a dream and it's really Friday now?'
The weather for today is expected to be largely improved upon yesterday's wintry chaos - which saw airports closed and hundreds of cars abandoned on blizzard-hit motorways.
Although colder temperatures are expected in parts, the weather will generally be sunny for most.
With only some showers in the far north, west and east. These being a wintry mix around the coasts but snow inland.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
