The Silicon Valley giant took the wraps off the latest updates to Assistant on Tuesday as it officially opened its 18,000-square-foot booth at the Consumer Electronics Show – the highlight of which is an amusement park-style ride that takes after Disney's 'A Small World.'

This is only Google’s second year exhibiting at CES.

In a demonstration at the Las Vegas exhibit, Google showed how its new Interpreter feature can be used to break down language barriers in real-time conversations.

Interpreter Mode will be able to take on 27 languages from the get-go, and will be released across its Google Home devices and Smart Displays, the firm revealed in a press-briefing.

The feature is set to roll out within the next few weeks.

A live demonstration showed just how the system works; simply say the command to initiate – for example, ‘Hey Google, be my French interpreter’ – and Google Assistant will jump into Interpreter Mode.

Then, each person in the conversation can take turns speaking in their own language, and Google Assistant will read out the correct translation.

In the surprisingly smooth demonstration, a Dailymail.com reporter speaking English was able to carry out a conversation with Google’s Italian-speaking exhibitor without any hiccups.

All the while, translations in both languages popped up on the display of its Google Home Hub.

Google also debuted a $79 Assistant-equipped ‘smart clock’ that’s meant for the bedroom and can set alarms based on your calendar, as well as control all your smart home devices.

It marks the second year that Google has made a big splash at CES, the largest tech trade event in the world, with this year’s booth being its biggest yet as it tries to outdo rivals like Amazon.

Google also talked at length about how Assistant is increasingly helpful on the go.

It rolled out new integrations with Google Maps, where users can operate the app hands-free with just their voice.

Users say ‘Hey Google, send my ETA,’ and Assistant will text your arrival time to any of your contacts.

‘With just your voice, you’ll be able to share your ETA with friends and family, reply to text messages, play music and podcasts, search for places along your route, add a new stop and auto-punctuate your message,’ Google said in a statement.

And it’s not just limited to regular SMS messages, the features work with popular apps like WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Telegram and others.

The updates are available starting today for users on both iOS and Android.

Google partnered with Lenovo to produce the 4-inch Smart Clock, which comes with a touchscreen that automatically adjusts based on the room’s brightness, so that it ‘gently wakes’ users up in the morning.

If users have an event on their calendar, the Smart Clock will also display alerts reminding users what they have going on that day.

The smart clock, which is slated to go on sale in the spring, marks Google’s latest foray into smart displays.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
