Desiree Boltos, 37, is accused of swindling $1.6million from vulnerable elderly men she approached romantically and asked for money from between 2012 and 2017
New details have emerged surrounding how a woman dubbed the 'sweetheart swindler' allegedly defrauded an elderly man by pretending she had cancer to get him to buy her a $500,000 home which she lived in with her children and a common law partner she pretended was her brother.
Desiree Boltos, 37, is standing trial for allegedly defrauding two elderly men.
The first is Danny Ray Barnett. Barnett was 79 when he met her in a post office in Hurst, Texas, in 2013. Prosecutors say Boltos convinced him she was single when in fact she had a common law husband, Patrick Hill.
She then told him she had cancer and that she needed $500,000 to pay for medical procedures, they say.
Within four months of meeting each other, the pair got married at her request in a ceremony that neither of their relatives were invited to.
Boltos then convinced him to buy her a $400,000 home.
She moved into it with her children but, according to Barnett's friends and family, he was never allowed to visit much less live in it.
Hill was also living in the home, they say. Whenever anyone asked who he was, Boltos allegedly told them he was her brother.

This is the $400,000 home she convinced Barnett, her elderly husband, to buy her in Richland Hills, Texas. Barnett did not see her for 10 months after he signed it over but, according to prosecutors, Boltos lived in the home with her common law husband and children
For 10 months after he bought the house, the pair did not see each other, according Barnett's lifelong friend Marily Ewell who testified against Boltos in court on Tuesday.
By September 2014, he was penniless and living in a bare apartment, his friends said.
He told his friends that while she would never come to help him with food, laundry or cleaning, he sometimes caught her there in the middle of the night going through his pockets for money.
In February 2016, Barnett fell and hit his head. He had gone to a friend's home to get help changing his adult diaper when the accident happened and he died three days later in the hospital.
Ewell, who helped look after him in his final years, said he tried to warn him about Boltos while he was still alive.

Boltos is pictured in another booking photograph. She has defended herself by saying that while her behavior was unethical, she does not believe it was illegal
'I tried to counsel Danny and ask for help from everybody. He was so easily manipulated, and he felt sorry for Desiree. He thought she had cancer, and he wanted to help feed her children.
'He was just the most simple-minded child-like person I’d ever met and the nicest and the kindest,' he told the court on Wednesday, according to The Star Telegram.
While she was married to Barnett, Boltos allegedly targeted 80-year-old JR Olmstead in an Office Depot.
She told him she would call him and did so six weeks after their meeting when she agreed to see him but said he would have to help her financially if he did.
'Within a month or two, boy, I was spending money like a drunk sailor,' he said at the trial on Tuesday.
It is unclear what led to her arrest or what happened when Barnett died in 2016 with regards to his estate or what was left of it.
In total, prosecutors say Boltos stole $1.6million from five elderly men and one elderly woman between 2012 and 2017.
Her defense is that all of the men were willing to be with her and handover money.
'It doesn’t say anywhere in the law or in the Bible that people shouldn’t have relationships of any age.
'These men are very educated. They’re way smarter than me. Nobody was a victim here.
'How can you steal something from somebody if they gave it to you?' she told NBC.
Her attorney, Joetta King, added: 'You may not approve of this lifestyle and you may not approve of it if it’s your daddy, but these folks made willing choices.'
Boltos' partner, Hill, is also facing charges.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
