Coronation Street favourite Norris Cole is set to make a welcome return to the cobbles following actor Malcolm Hebden’s heart attack last year which left him in an induced coma and 'close to dying'.
The 78-year-old has been out of the ITV soap for nearly a year, with fans fearing he would never make a comeback.
But Malcolm, who has played the busy-body for 24 years, reportedly went to the show’s studios in Manchester two weeks ago to discuss a slow and steady return next year.
Good news for Corrie fans! Norris Cole is set to make a welcome return to the cobbles following actor Malcolm Hebden’s heart attack last year
One cast member told The Mirror: ‘I was so pleasantly surprised to see him. It has been a long battle back to fitness but he looks better than I could have imagined.
‘He looks really well, it is going to be great to have him back. The show has missed him. We’ve missed him.’
MailOnline has contacted a Coronation Street representative for comment.

Late last month, co-star Patti Clare (who plays Mary Taylor) teased that there was a 'faint whisper' on set about Malcolm's return.
During an appearance on This Morning, the actress was quizzed by host Phillip Schofield about the rumours and teased: 'He's in Peru at the moment, Mary speaks to him on the phone often, so there's a faint sort of whisper that he might be back, maybe next year?'
Malcom has played busybody shopkeeper Norris since 1994, but has been sorely missed by viewers since his health scare in December, when he spent three months in the Lancashire Cardiac Centre and Blackburn Royal Hospital, including three weeks in an induced coma.

In July, Malcolm revealed he nearly died following his heart attack but is finally on the mend.
He told the Blackpool Gazette: ‘Most of December I was in an induced coma, in the care of these brilliant, wonderful people at the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU).
'Fortunately I didn’t realise how bad it was; I was dying. The cardiac team, headed by Mr Joseph Zacharias, simply saved my life.
‘I was informed by my doctor I had had at least one heart attack. I was sent to hospital, by emergency ambulance to Blackburn hospital and was there one night... The heart attack tore a hole in my heart. They operated and took a chance.'

The star said at the time he does not know if he will return to the show and it will all depend on his continued recovery.
In 2009, it was noted that the character of Norris has become one of the show's most recognisable characters.
And over the two decades, Norris has had his fair share of drama. Back in 2010, he was held captive by admirer Mary Taylor and last year he was dropped with a paternity bombshell after discovering he could have a secret son in Weatherfield.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
