The Christian group which sent the American missionary to the island where he was killed by a protected tribe insisted on Wednesday that he would have gone to there with or without their help and had been planning the trip since he was a teenager.

John Chau, 27, was killed when he approached North Sentinel Island earlier this month. He was trying to spread the word of God to the Sentinelese people who have lived separately from society for 30,000 years.

Chau had paid local Indian fishermen to take him as far as he could then he kayaked towards the island himself. His body is still there and police are yet to determine how they will get it back.

On Wednesday, All Nations, the Kansas City missionary group he was a part of, eschewed responsibility for his death.

Its leader, Mary Ho, said he had paid for the trip himself, had been planning it for years and was 'very well prepared', implying that he knew the risks of venturing towards the island.

'He was just emotionally, culturally, physically, intellectually very, very well prepared.

'He was a young man who, from the time he was about 18 years old, went on a mission trip and knew that he was called to be a missionary.

'Even as a young man, before we met him, every decision he made, every step he took, was to share the love of God with the North Sentinelese.

'Knowing John, he would have pursued this calling no matter what,' she told The Kansas City Star.

Her message echoes the one Chau give his parents in a letter home before he made the fateful journey.

He told them not to blame the tribe if they killed him and that he believed the risk of losing his life was worth it. Ho told how Chau kept a diary to prepare for the mission.

'He was trained to be prudent, to take certain precautions, to understand culture, to understand languages, to understand what others have done before that may have worked,' she said.

He met the group more than a year before he made the journey.

Other groups are now urging Indian police not to try to recover his body.

Not only is it clearly dangerous for anyone to approach the island, but if they do get onto it they risk exposing the tribe to pathogens to which they have no  immunity because they have lived independently for so long.

In a statement earlier this week, the group Survivor International, said: 'It’s not impossible that the Sentinelese have just been infected by deadly pathogens to which they have no immunity, with the potential to wipe out the entire tribe.

'The Sentinelese have shown again and again that they want to be left alone, and their wishes should be respected.

'The British colonial occupation of the Andaman Islands decimated the tribes living there, wiping out thousands of tribespeople, and only a fraction of the original population now survive.

'So the Sentinelese fear of outsiders is very understandable,' the group said in a statement.

Indian authorities have already filed a murder case against the tribe and they are holding some of the fishermen who helped Chau get there on other charges.

His family in Washington State has urged them to release the fishermen, claiming their son's death was no one's fault but his own.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
