«Breaking News» Al Gore calls out Trump for 'burying' climate change report by releasing it on Black Friday

Al Gore has lashed out at the Trump administration accusing the president of seeking to 'bury' a government report on climate change by releasing it on Black Friday

The former Vice President has become an outspoken advocate of the need to take steps to prevent global warming. Gore became a prominent spokesman on the climate debate with the 2006 documentary 'An Inconvenient Truth'.

'Unbelievably deadly and tragic wildfires rage in the west, hurricanes batter our coasts — and the Trump administration chooses the Friday after Thanksgiving to try and bury this critical U.S. assessment of the climate crisis,' Gore said in a statement on Friday.

'The President may try to hide the truth, but his own scientists and experts have made it as stark and clear as possible,' he added.

The report was long scheduled for release in December, according to CBS News but the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration announced on Wednesday that it would be released on Black Friday, widely regarded as the beginning of the Christmas shopping season. It was unclear why the date was changed.

Releasing information on a Friday afternoon or during holidays is widely considered  a way to lessen the amount of publicity or attention the 'news' might get.

Study co-author Andrew Light, an international policy expert at the World Resources Institute, told The Associated Press that releasing the report on Black Friday 'is a transparent attempt by the Trump Administration to bury this report and continue the campaign of not only denying but suppressing the best of climate science.'

National Wildlife Federation President and CEO Collin O'Mara also waded in, criticizing the timing of the release.

'It's an absolute disgrace to bury the truth about climate impacts in a year that saw hundreds of Americans die during devastating climate-fueled megafires, hurricanes, floods, and algal blooms,' O'Mara said in a statement.

During a press conference Friday, officials behind the report declined to answer questions about the timing of its release and why it contradicts public statements from Trump. Report director David Reidmiller said questions about the timing were 'relevant,' but said what was in the report was more important.

The National Climate Assessment  is mandated by law every few years and is based on more than 1,000 previous research studies and written by outside scientists and officials from 13 federal agencies.

It focuses on how global warming from the burning of coal, oil and gas is hurting each region of the United States and warns that hurricanes and wildfire disasters are worsening in the U.S. because of global warming.

It says warming-charged extremes 'have already become more frequent, intense, widespread or of long duration.' The report also notes the last few years have smashed U.S. records for damaging weather, costing nearly $400 billion since 2015.

The report goes on to predict that climate change will be especially costly on the nation's coasts, with rising seas and severe storm surges, leading to lower property values.

Alaska and Louisiana are singled out with scientists predicating coastal flooding is likely to force some residents to relocate.

The report is the second volume of the Fourth National Climate Assessment. Volume I of the assessment, which concluded that it was 'extremely likely' that climate change has been caused by humans, was released last November.

It clashes with the president's past statements and tweets on the legitimacy of climate change science.

The 2018 National Climate Assessment addresses the change in temperatures globally, 'Over climate timescales of multiple decades ... global temperature continues to steadily increase.'

The president announced last year his intention to withdraw the U.S. from the landmark Paris climate agreement. The agreement requires countries to establish ambitious targets to reduce greenhouse gasses that cause global warming.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
