The thought of travelling with a young family can be a nightmare for many, but there are certain tricks that can help you survive - and even enjoy - the trip.

Australian Jetstar cabin crew member and mother-of-two, Carrie Lawrie, recently shared with FEMAIL how she makes travelling with children a breeze.

The busy flight attendant has flown to many corners of the globe and occasionally has her two children in tow.

The first tip Carrie swears by is making sure you factor in plenty of extra time for travel.

She said all too often families often underestimate the size of the airports and distance to the gates:

'Having extra time will reduce stress. Get to the gate early and board the flight first as this will help with getting comfortable and organised on board,' she told Daily Mail Australia.

'With more time needed to travel with kids, parents should always arrive early to ensure it is as stress free as possible.'

Carrie said that 'preparation is the key' when travelling as a family and parents should give themselves more time.

'There are extra toilet stops, more luggage to check in and more people to go through security, plus larger amounts of coffee to consume at the airport pre-flight,' she said.

When it comes to packing for a big trip Carrie said parents sometimes forget to put the essentials into their hand luggage.

She said things like children's medication should be put in carry on and will be accepted through security points.

The mother-of-two said it was also important for parents to carry spare clothes as you never know when you may need to change due to a spillage.

'I also find travelling on planes can get cold so I like to pack a blanket and some extra warm clothes,' Carrie added.

When it comes to flying, Carrie said that take off and landings can be the most difficult as they can cause little one's ears to hurt.

Swallowing and chewing can reduce ear pain dramatically.

'A lollipop or Pringles are great to give to your toddler especially as the plane is descending, as this is the most likely time their ears may hurt with the air pressure and altitude changes,' she said.

Carrie also aims to carry snacks at all times, which often help as a bargaining chip or for when the children are fussy eaters.

'Never underestimate the powers of a chocolate frog, especially if you need them to keep their seat belts fastened and remain seated,' she said.

If you are travelling alone with a toddler the crew can always mind your child whilst you use the toilet

Another tip she shares is to bring along favourite toys and games to keep kids entertained and consider bringing an iPad that has their favourite shows downloaded.

It is also important to remember that cabin crew are always there to help.

'If you are travelling alone with a toddler the crew can always mind your child whilst you use the toilet!,' Carrie said.

'Inform crew of any special occasions such as your child birthday – the crew may be able to do a special PA announcement on board to make their day!'.

If people are lucky enough to be in a position where they can spend a little bit more money on tickets, Carrie recommends buying business class tickets for every family member.

I personally prefer to sit at the front of the aircraft if circumstances allow as if there is turbulence you don’t feel it as much

'The extra space really does go a long way. Know that this is not always possible though!,' she said.

If people can't afford those luxurious seats Carrie said children always love window seats and looking at the clouds out the window is a good distraction.

The crew member said she also finds that lots of families choose to sit at the back of the aircraft.

'There are extra toilets at the rear of the aircraft and larger galleys too,' she said.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
