Channel 10 announced last week that an unknown astrophysicist named Matthew Agnew had been cast as the new Bachelor.
It was a surprising decision for many viewers, who expected the network to pick another celebrity after Nick Cummins delivered strong ratings last year.
But according to WHO magazine, producers deliberately chose a non-famous candidate to 'refresh' the six-year-old franchise.

'They want to give viewers a real love story': The Bachelor producers hired astrophysicist Matt Agnew after 'the novelty of celebrity suitors like Sophie Monk and Nick Cummins wore off'
'The novelty of watching a celebrity search for love has worn off and producers figured that out pretty quickly after Nick's finale,' a source told the publication.
In last year's Bachelor finale, rugby star Nick shocked the nation by dumping both contestants, Brittany Hockley and Sophie Tieman, leaving the show a single man.
But according to the insider, Matt is there for the right reasons (to borrow a popular Bachelor catchphrase) and will give viewers the 'happily ever after' they deserve.

Unexpected choice: Many viewers expected Channel 10 to pick another celebrity Bachelor after Nick Cummins (pictured) delivered strong ratings last year
'Matt is a normal, decent guy who is genuinely looking to meet someone,' they said.
'Producers see this as a way of giving the public what they failed to give them last year - a happily ever after!'
It comes after NW magazine revealed earlier this week that Matt was an instant hit with the women at the first cocktail party.
'He seemed incredibly charming,' said an on-set source. 'He had all the girls in fits of laughter and hanging off his every word.'

Stunt casting: Celebrities were introduced to the Australian Bachelor franchise in 2017 when Sophie Monk (pictured) was cast as the Bachelorette
Matt previously told Woman's Day that he's looking for a woman who will complement his down-to-earth nature.
'I want someone who doesn't take themselves too seriously and we can just have a laugh and fun together,' he said.
'I'm looking for a best friend, the same way I've seen so many of my friends find one in their partners.'
The Bachelor will air on Channel 10 later this year

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
