«Breaking News» Three women reveal how they manage to weigh the same now as they did when they were in their 20s

Three women who weigh the same now in their 50s as they did in their 20s have revealed the secrets to their enviable, fit physiques.

And while many think very strict dieting and hours in the gym is key, their responses prove that balance and moderation really is the special ingredient to a healthy and happy life.

Here, the Australian trio share their typical day on a plate and the tricks and tips they swear by for looking and feeling great all year long.

'I avoid processed foods and don't drink cocktails'

Average weight in her 20s: 52 to 56 kilos

Average weight at 50: 54 to 58 kilos

Eugenie Pepper, 50, a counsellor and hypnotherapist from Randwick, New South Wales, said her weight varied from 52 to 56 kilos during her 20s.

Now three decades later she weighs only slightly more, with her weight averaging between 54 and 58 kilos.

'I have always done around the same amount of exercise which includes walking, yoga and pilates and my diet is very similar to when I was in my 20s,' Ms Pepper told FEMAIL.

'I mainly eat fruit and vegetables, meat and fish and occasionally rice and pasta.

'I avoid processed foods and sugar but I believe everything is okay in moderation. If I am going out for dinner with friends I will rarely say no to dessert!'

Ms Pepper said that when she was in her 20s she would always eat fruit salad and yoghurt for breakfast and have a cup of coffee. For lunch she would regularly have an Asian stir-fry or her favourite chicken laksa and in the evenings she would mostly eat out.

'Back then if I was eating out I was more likely to treat myself to dessert and wine and if there were fries and bread on the table I would not be able to resist,' she said.

Now her routine is a lot more consistent and she tends to have the same meals throughout the week rather than eating out so often.

For breakfast she usually has porridge with cinnamon and banana and apple or she may have eggs with bacon, spinach, cucumber, avocado and tomato.

Her favourite lunch is a Greek salad, to which she will usually add chicken, avocado or rocket and chia seeds.

'In the evening we have a barbecue with lamb cutlets, roast potatoes, salad and vegetables,' she said. 'I will also snack on fruit, boiled eggs, sliced cheese and nuts throughout the day and sometimes in the evenings I will have yoghurt and fruit.'

In her 20s she was going to art openings, parties and events nearly every night of the week, but these days she drinks less alcohol and has young children so her social life has slowed down, which she contributes to her slim figure.

What was Eugenie's day on a plate in her 20s?

Breakfast: Fruit salad with yoghurt and a coffee.

Lunch: Asian stir fry or her favourite dish which was chicken laksa.

Dinner: She would mostly go out for dinner so she would have eaten anything from pasta to fish or steak with salad and vegetables.

If there was bread or fries on the table she would help herself to that too.

Dessert: If she was eating out she would be more likely to treat herself to dessert and wine.

What is Eugenie's day on a plate now at 50?

Breakfast: Porridge with cinnamon and banana and apple or eggs with bacon, spinach, cucumber, avocado and tomato.

Lunch: Greek salad with added chicken, avocado or rocket and chia seeds.

Dinner: A BBQ with lamb cutlets, roast potatoes, salad and vegetables.

Snacks: Fruit, boiled eggs, sliced cheese and nuts throughout the day.

Dessert: The occasional yoghurt and fruit.

'I still do a lot of walking. When I had my babies I walked lots with them and I still walk daily with friends, I always take the stairs instead of the lift and will walk rather than drive when running local errands,' she said.

'I noticed that if I drink Champagne, wine or cocktails there will be a spike in my weight, as much as a of a couple of kilos overnight.'

Now if she does drink she will opt for a vodka with fresh lime and soda instead.

She also uses her hypnotherapy app program the 'Key for Me' to motivate herself to avoid sugar and control how much she drinks.

This particularly comes in handy around the holiday season or if she is going to a party and knows that she will be tempted to overdo it.

Ms Pepper added that bad sleep and stress can cause people to gain weight so it is important for her to manage stress and have good sleep to keep her weight stable.

When you eat sugar you never feel satisfied and you just crave one more piece, or something salty and end up in the dreaded salt sugar loop.

'Stress and sleep deprivation affects the hormones that regulate your hunger and appetite,' she said.

'This is why when we are stressed and tired we tend to reach for the comfort food that may not be so good for us. When you eat sugar you never feel satisfied and you just crave one more piece, or something salty and end up in the dreaded salt sugar loop.'

Now Ms Pepper aims to support people to achieve their goals and find solutions to make positive changes in their life.

'I have developed a hypnosis and guided meditation app with programs for managing stress, quitting sugar, controlled drinking and quitting smoking,' she said.

'I help my clients swap their bad habits for positive healthy ones, so I try to practice what I preach.'

'I've taken up pole dancing and don't snack during the day'

Average weight in her 20s: 55 kilos

Average weight at 50: 55 kilos

Katrina Bart, 50, a clairvoyant medium who lives in Newcastle, New South Wales, said her weight has averaged 55 kilograms since her 20s and she has always been a slim size eight.

In her 20s Ms Bart didn't exercise as she was 'naturally slim' - but this meant she wasn't very aware of her health.

'I actually become more aware of my health after turning 40. I was brought up a vegetarian and although I did like chocolate, my taste buds have changed as I've gotten older,' she told FEMAIL.

'I've never really been a snack person, just three meals a day. I now also eat more chicken and red meat, have a coffee at 10am every morning and sometimes I'll have a chai tea in the afternoon.'

These days she is a lot more aware of what she eats and she also incorporates exercise as she aims to keep fit.

Ms Bart does pole dancing for fitness at least three nights a week and also walks her dog for half-an-hour every morning.

She also tries to fit in stretch classes and 'booty' classes to help maintain her overall fitness.

'I'm very much into "real" food, not packaged or tinned wherever possible, fresh fruit and vegetables - however I do everything in moderation,' the clairvoyant said.

'I've gone off milk chocolate and have developed a taste for Lindt dark chocolate as well.'

In her 20s she would regularly eat three small, meals a day and would often avoid snacks and dessert.

What was Katrina's day on a plate in her 20s?

Breakfast: Bowl of Uncle Toby's natural muesli.

Lunch: Cheese and salad sandwich on multi-grain bread.

Dinner: She would eat a vegetarian protein of some kind, such as a vegetarian sausage, with vegetables on the side.

Snacks: She wouldn't snack throughout the day in her 20s.

Dessert: She would never have eaten dessert unless she was out for a special occasion.

What is Katrina's day on a plate now at 50?

Breakfast: A banana, two scoops of natural Greek yoghurt with either a fig or strawberries and mixed nuts and seeds.

Lunch: Baby spinach, tuna, capsicum, cucumber, a mushroom and half avocado in a salad with a piece of fruit.

Dinner: Chicken in a homemade marinade or a piece of salmon with potatoes, carrots, sweet potato.

Dessert: Sometimes she will have a Cornetto but most of the time she will just have a cup of peppermint tea.

Now her breakfast consists of a banana, two scoops of natural Greek yoghurt with either a fig or strawberries and mixed nuts and seeds.

Her lunch will changing depending on the season so in summer she will have baby spinach, tuna, capsicum, cucumber, a mushroom and half an avocado in a salad with a piece of fruit.

In winter she will cook up vegetables, eggplant, capsicum, onion, mushroom, zucchini, carrot and quinoa.

For dessert she may sometimes have a Cornetto ice cream but she doesn't often eat dessert, instead opting for a cup of peppermint tea

Ms Bart said that she thinks one of the main reasons she's managed to maintain the same weight over the years is because of 'good genes'.

However she said that now she's older if she decided to instead 'pig out' and not watch what she eats she would put on weight.

'As I've gotten older I do note that it's harder to shift any weight that I gain, so am very aware of what I put in my mouth, however, I don't stop myself from enjoying things,' she said.

'I still will have the occasional dessert if I want it and that piece of chocolate! Plus the exercise helps maintain my body weight and overall fitness levels.'

'I follow the Paleo diet and take inspiration from Kate Moss'

Average weight in her 20s: 57 to 60 kilos

Average weight at 55: 58 kilos

Karen O'Connor, 55, a writer and mother-of-four from the Gold Coast, Queensland,  weighed between 57 and 60 kilos in her 20s now weighs 58 kilos on average.

In her 20s Ms O'Connor was a swimmer, runner, horse rider and synchronised swimmer and she did anything between one and four hours of exercise a day.

Now she rides horses, swims and goes to the gym, completing a minimum of 30 minutes and a maximum of two hours of exercise a day, sometimes more.

'That sounds like an awful lot now I think about it. I've never really thought about it, I just feel awful when I don't exercise and I enjoy feeling energised, fit and slim so I just get on with it,' the mother-of-four told FEMAIL.

Ms O'Connor explained that when she was younger she would always eat lots of food, as she preferred to exercise so that she didn't have to diet.

This being said, she has always avoided sweet things except for the occasional cake or lolly.

A normal day of eating for her when she was in her 20s was cereal or toast for breakfast, sandwiches for lunch and then meat and three vegetables or a curry for dinner.

She would snack throughout the day on chips, fruit, nuts, yoghurt, cheese and ham.

These days Ms O'Connor follows almost a complete Paleolithic diet as she's discovered that her body doesn't like grains and legumes and she's reluctant to cut out dairy as well but thinks that she may need to.

For breakfast each day she will munch on paleo granola with milk or a frittata.

Lunch is usually leftovers from dinner the previous evening or if she's out she will buy a green smoothie or grain-free Buddha bowl or a salad.

Dinner is usually a big plate of green salad, followed by a plate of meat or fish and sweet potato

'At the moment I've got this craving for berries and heaps of cream, so that's dessert every night,' Ms O'Connor said

'I'll have nuts or fruit or some kind of homemade grain-free loaf or sweet potato chips for snacks.'

What was Karen's day on a plate in her 20s?

Breakfast: A bowl of cereal with milk or toast.

Lunch: Sandwiches - the filling would differ depending on what she felt like on the day.

Dinner: Her go-to would be a plate of meat and three vegetables or she'd have a curry.

Snacks: Chips, fruit, nuts, yoghurt, cheese and ham.

Dessert: The occasional cake or lolly.

Lunch: Either leftovers from dinner or if she's out, either a green smoothie, grain-free Buddha bowl or a salad.

Snacks: Nuts and fruit or homemade grain-free loaf or sweet potato chips.

The writer thinks that the reason she has managed to maintain a similar weight over the years is because she's never allowed herself to have a sweet tooth and she doesn't let any weight gain get too far.

'I've never understood how someone can eat a whole bar of chocolate because they're a bit upset by something or tuck into a jar of Nutella to help with their stress, I'd be vomiting if I did that!' She said.

'Kate Moss said that her secret to staying slim was that, to her, 'nothing tastes as good as skinny feels'. She got a lot of criticism for that, but I know exactly what she meant.

'I'm sad to say that I can do one piece of chocolate and then I'm done. I'm not much of a normal woman if the TV and movies are anything to go by!

'I enjoy feeling good, and I don't feel good if I'm overweight, have eaten sweet things, or haven't exercised.'

Ms O'Connor said that she hates it when people tell her she's lucky to be slim, but she also likes the acknowledgement.

She said this is because it isn't luck, as she puts a lot of effort into staying slim and keeping herself feeling good.

'This sounds really pompous and self-righteous, but I don't know how else to say it: I have the potential to be overweight, I just don't let myself go there,' she added.

'I don't feel like I deprive myself or limit myself, I just see it as a choice. I can eat that chocolate bar and feel cr*p, or I cannot eat that chocolate bar and feel good. It's really simple. It's not necessarily easy, but it is simple.

'Kate Moss said that her secret to staying slim was that, to her, 'nothing tastes as good as skinny feels'.

'She got a lot of criticism for that, but I know exactly what she meant because that's how I feel about it. I like being slim more than I like any food.'

Ms O'Connor said she's aware that it sounds like her life revolves around eating well and exercising but she doesn't think it does as she labels it as a habit rather than an obsession.

When she was a teenager she focused on eating well and consuming foods that made her feel good, which she said is something she has continued.

Now she aims to eat similar food she ate as a teenager.

'I've tried not exercising for a year when I had a fairly major operation and I ended up on anti-depressants,' she said.

'I've tried eating too much or eating junk food and I feel physically and mentally awful when I do. I'm much happier when I eat well and exercise, it's as simple as that.

'Eating poorly, not exercising and not listening to how my body feels just doesn't work, I've found that out the hard way!'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
