Soaring numbers of parents are being violently attacked by their own children, shocking figures show. A massive 23,000 incidents of parental abuse were recorded in London alone over the past three years.
The biggest rise has been among daughters accused of assaulting or ill-treating their mothers or fathers. And Scotland Yard fears the harrowing crime will become even more common as pensioners live longer, often suffering from dementia, in the same homes as their offspring.
Last night, Susan Hall, a Conservative member of London’s Police and Crime Committee, told The Mail on Sunday: ‘Clearly the Mayor’s crime epidemic has now reached into people’s homes, with this surge in parental abuse coming off the back of stratospheric crime levels in the capital.
‘Too many Londoners feel they can turn to violence in Sadiq Khan’s lawless London – even when their own parents are the target of these heinous crimes.’
She added: ‘It is entirely possible that the Mayor’s abject failure to build enough homes has also contributed to this surge in violent crime, with young people living at home longer and often in pressurised, overcrowded conditions.’
In a major report, the Metropolitan Police listed parental abuse as an area of ‘emerging demand’ where it is keen for victims to come forward. It said: ‘Domestic abuse where the victim is a parent of the suspect has increased by 66 per cent between 2012 and 2015.
‘We have engaged with Oxford and Manchester universities to improve our understanding of this particular demand.’
Statistics obtained by the Conservatives from London’s Mayor show that recorded offences of ‘parental domestic abuse’ have risen by ten per cent in recent years. There were 7,290 such crimes in 2016; 7,716 the following year and 8,033 in 2018.
The biggest rise has been where ‘daughter of victim’ was recorded as a suspect – up 17 per cent to 5,275 cases in the past three years.
Daughters now account for 23 per cent of the children accused of parental abuse. Overall however, sons were responsible for the greatest proportion (69 per cent). Grandchildren were blamed for almost 1,000 attacks on their relatives (four per cent of the total) while stepchildren accounted for the rest. A Home Office report into adolescent-to-parent violence and abuse – also dubbed ‘battered parent syndrome’ – said it often involves a pattern of behaviour over a long period of time.
Mothers and fathers will be subjected to verbal and emotional abuse as well as physical violence and damage to their property.
Sometimes drug or alcohol abuse will be blamed but in other cases ‘families were at a loss to explain why their child was so aggressive, having raised other children who did not display such behaviour’.
The problem is often made worse because parents feel the shame of being victimised by their own children, and do not report it.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
